Hi there.
You probably expect some sort of brigading of some sort, or some ironic post to spite you or your values, but this is not. I don’t share the provocations and general negativity that this new instance seems to have attracted.
I, for change, welcome you to the fediverse, in hope, maybe naive, that sharing a common ground would allow both of our community nembers to get out of our respective echo chambers and try to find our common values and get a better understanding of each other, rather than locking ourselves into our dogmas and differences.
Unfortunately, not everyone will share this goodwill, especially on a world as fractured as our is now, so I’ll add a “good luck” handling all the stuff that are unfortunately coming your way, and hope you will not take it too badly.
We, on the left, have our share of tankies and idiots, and that’s not going to change any time soon, but at least there are others that want to mend that broken world, even if it takes time.
Be well, stay kind, and good luck

I think basically points of agreement should be identified and worked on together
small example: lots of people want to permanently change daylight saving in some direction or another. We might be able to come to agreement on things like this that can improve our society.
points of disagreement should be identified and ideally worked through
big example: abortion. conservatives believe this is the taking of an innocent human’s life and their freedom. Obviously if you believed that, you’d probably be against it too. The pro-abortion side does not often believe the unborn baby is alive like a child or adult is, and believes forcing a mother to give birth is a violation of her freedom. So we have conflicting claims of the freedom of the unborn child versus the freedom of the mother to not have to carry a pregnancy. These kinds of conflicts have to be worked through and ideally people can be brought to more of a consensus about them.
