I think it was due to an API issue comparable to what Reddit did last year

    I noticed the other day that you couldn’t really use nitter anywhere because they were all rate limited. sucks since I don’t have a twitter account.

    It was particularly useful to just check accounts that blocked you.

    The writing has been on the wall for Nitter for a while now, it’s sad to finally see it go.

    I used to run a Nitter instance, I found it very useful and for a while it had a lot of traffic from China, until it got blocked by the great firewall. It’s crazy to me that they would go down to that level of granularity when it comes to what they block.

    I view the death of Nitter from that lens, it’s just another tool that people in authoritarian nightmare regimes could use to get access to information, and now it’s gone.
