GAB disabling media uploads for free tier from next month. Already a small exodus to fedi. Will be interesting to see if this starts a death cycle.

I think it will still thrive but it is a competitive disadvantage… probably should have somehow monetized user data uploads, maybe as an opt-in kind of thing. interesting development

yeah but they probably figured people would make multiple accounts? idk what the reasoning was. I can see this being a problem with a mid-sized operation. big players can somehow fund many users. small groups would be strained

Running a social media isn’t really profitable. Unless you are advertising a lot, selling people’s data or profitably sell subscription there isn’t much money to be made.

Even Youtube isn’t profitable for Google. Can you imagine how smaller players like Gab are living. Last time I checked they had a monthly cost bar that rarely, if ever, fills up.

It probably can be profitable, but you need to run it like a business.

It sounds like most companies are burning cash like the joker, which makes sense since many companies are so growth oriented because they’re flush with VC cash and want to become unicorn IPOs. If you just kept it humble I bet you could have a small but profitable company. (I wonder if minds is profitable?)
