Do you use NOSTR? Asking because the protocol work on relays it’s like how fediverse works but less censorship. You can’t get banned all you can do is mute people.
Anyway,
I’m making an assumption on how this feature works. NOSTR is a protocol and the apps are to connect to that protocol. It’s not an ‘app’ if that makes sense.
Sane like fediverse apps. Apps are just too access the protocol and use it. It’s not a ‘social media app’ like Twitter for example.
Before this feature, relays (think lemmy instances) I guess automatically had their own designated media uploader depending on which one the relay operator chooses I guess. So when you’re making a image or video post, all the different media uploaders for each relay ‘grab’ it, and upload it to its relay so it can show in the social feed.
This update looks too me like now instead of relying on on whatever media uploader the the relay operator chooses for their relay, you can now pick and choose which media hosted nostr uploaders you want to grab your post and search from.
Complicated.
It’s more specific now and I feel like that minimizes reach to be honest. But I could be wrong. It’s also more tedious on the user now. I feel the developers are falling under this assumption that since they’re a developer everyone else in the universe is a developer. Which is irritating.
