With age comes wisdom comes the understanding that control does not work with humans. It sacrifices part of them to get an outcome the parent wants. But the job of parenting never ends. In your 80s you will still want someone older who can show you what to do next. A parent that learns to support without controlling the kid will find themselves always able to parent their kid because the kid will always come to them for help.

All the “good” ideas this administration has are precedents to authoritarian mandates. They promote healthy eating so they can deny insurance claims etc. if you indicate (or if they suspect) you’re not doing it.

My phrasing was misleading, but yes - taoism the religion helped me leave religion. A huge part of that was the dichotomy between eastern philosophy and the traumatic nature of the Abrahamic faiths. All Westerners I think would benefit from learning many eastern philosophies for that exact reason. But I still downplay the word ‘religion’ when marketing it to people because… strategy.

Read The Tao of Inner Peace. Taoism helped me leave religion and learn to kind of just accept the duality of all things. Most days are still shit but I can internally find the yin to that yang.
