I think the thing that’s turning me off is how self-aware of it he is.
Like, Cid from TEIS is similar, but done in a humorous way and he is just oblivious to how his alter-ego impacts the world and people around him. Yodaka on the other hand cares a ton about how he is perceived by those around him and, like in this chapter, gets mad at himself when he pushes people away.
I am realizing that perhaps I am reading this with the wrong mindset. I kept waiting for him to start to show some kind of growth and connect to people around him since that is pretty much what happened in the author’s previous work. However, perhaps the genre for this series is completely different.
Seriously? He’s so edgy that he’s kind of growing on me for his delusions.

I think you are probably expecting some similarities with her previous adorable work. I am still giving it time.
