I have a specific speech exercise in French that I fail. For a few months now, I don’t know if this is my accent or duo’s speech recognition, but I cannot get it right. Is there a way for me to remove it from my list? I can skip it with the “I cannot speak now” button, but then it will be back, and I don’t have other speech exercises. Is there a way for me to remove it?
I always skip the speech recognition exercises. I am not convinced that the recognition is reliable.
I don’t like skipping them. In my eyes, even if I’m wrong, it’s still a good practice. But repeating the same phrase every day and getting the negative feedback is annoying
I’m speaking from my own experience of learning four languages using Duolingo and other sources: Hearing, reading, and typing don’t cover the full process of learning a language. Speaking it adds another valuable layer of skill which is not only about speaking it, but also about extracting the words from your memory in a fluent way. That’s the value is see in speaking exercises.
That being said, both in french and Italian, the speaking exercises are the foundation for my ability. In both cases it provided me with speaking skills that are good enough for me to be understood by (willing) native speakers.
If you are saying it wrong and it correctly identifies that, that could have value. But if you are saying it right and it incorrectly concludes that you are wrong, that delays your improvement.
But I wouldn’t mind hearing about strategies for getting accurate feedback from the voice recognition from people who do use it.
