I’ve been messing around with Bluesky for a while, and one thing I really missed was a proper way to browse discussions in a structured, Reddit-like way specially myself being daily reddit user. So, I ended up building a Reddit-like client for Bluesky that scratches that itch: Threadsky.app

It pulls in trending topics, lets you explore conversations with a threaded view (so no more getting lost in replies), and even allows users to create channels with customizations, basically, like subreddits but on Bluesky.

That said, this is still pretty barebones, and there’s a lot to improve. I really need feedback from actual users to shape where this goes next. Some planned features include markdown support, longer posts, and better mod tools for communities.

For privacy-conscious folks: Only details about channel customizations are stored on our servers. Everything else remains securely stored on your own PDS (Personal Data Server), just like the rest of Bluesky.

Also, I’m planning to open-source the project once I’ve polished things up a bit more.

    Interesting.

Same as for Twitter, ideal would be for people to move to Lemmy Mbin Piefed, but if they can at least leave Reddit, that’s good

It’s my understanding that people are working on Instagram, TikTok and Reddit equivalents using the AT protocol but I suppose these apps (which filter Bluesky content) are helpful if they get someone off the Big Web although they seem far less functional than dedicated services - Pixelfed and Lemmy are far superior to all of this but if that is what it takes then it is a good first step.

For them to talk to each other, Lemmy would need to be adapted to work with BridgyFed (or the other way around).

Bluesky doesn’t need fediverse compatibility for PR. Most people on Bluesky don’t know what the fediverse is.

They are luring people interested in federation by pretending ATProto is federated without saying that the cost of running an instance is prohibitive.

Posts about ATProto pop up every week in this community when people ask why people here aren’t considering it instead of ActivityPub

There is on-going work to lower the cost of operating a Relay. The information about the proposals is pretty technical, so I’m not going to post about it here until they have an official announcement.

Posts about ATProto pop up every week in this community because it’s my community, and I share news about it. I’m sure the subreddit is more active, but I don’t like Reddit, so I’m here.
