So me and my niece are part of an outgroup that is currently being targeted by the hard right, and my sister and I both legitimately fear for the safety of our family.

With the news Biden is dropping out, we are leaving the country.

To be clear: I LIKE Harris, I will be voting for Harris and whoever else is on the blue side of the ballot. But after that we are all getting on a plane because I think regardless of who wins this election, this country will go full concentration-camp fascist within 4 years.

The apathy that I see in my fellow citizens about all of the horrific things surrounding that fucking orange abomination tells me this country WANTS fascism and this time the GOP picked a narcissistic idiot, then next time they won’t make that mistake.

So we’re packing most of our stuff and shipping it off tomorrow to relatives, voting early, and staying in a sane country for at least a few years.

I hate that I have to do this, I hate that it is even a conceivable issue but some trumpfucker at a protest broke my nieces hand because of who she is and I don’t think it’s safe to be in a place where that becomes normalized.

We have relatives with a good amount of rural space in a place relatively progressive. I’ve some experience homesteading as does my sis. Even if where we end up is part of the rising tide, we’re deep in the sticks enough that barring a full mad max style world collapse (I’m not ruling it out but I think it unlikely) we should be pretty well left alone.

My uncle already has a good deep well and he’s been raising chickens there for about 20 years and I think he’s had like two visitors that entire time that weren’t family or a shipping truck. My niece already speaks the language and I’ll learn it, not that we really plan on socializing for a while.
