From my perspective as a pro-2A person (who is also decidedly left of center), they also couldn’t even pass the Hearing Protection Act that would have taken silencers out of the National Firearms Act of 1934. (It made it out of committee, and then the Las Vegas massacre happened, and–despite silencers not being used in the murders–the bill was tabled.) But!, Trump did say he supported seizing guns first and due process second–or never–and his ATF did ban bump stocks (…and that ban was recently thrown out by SCOTUS because a bump stock clearly does not fit the legal definition of a machine gun).
So even the very, very minimally positive things I might have expected from Republicans dominating the gov’t didn’t happen. He literally could not fucking do the bare minimum.
