People have come in and stalked us, but as long as you have good OPSEC you should be fine. If your position is giving you worry, then I recommend anonymizing yourself as much as possible.
Try not to reveal where you’re from, what you do, how old you are, and what organizations you may be a part of. It’s important to determine your risk tolerance and threat model, I’m fine with saying I’m a Statesian but not what state I live in, where I’m going, what I do for work, etc.
fun fact, i didn’t know lemmygrad was an ML instance, i heard about lemmy and wanted to try it. i was looking for instance that doesn’t require email and i found lemmygrad and i signed up. now i am with all the friendly comrades.
Aside from the obvious stuff like giving up your real name and location, it is recommended to, when sharing personal stuff, to make up details so it’s harder to identify you from piecing up multipliple tidbits, e.g. when talking about family say you have 2 sisters instead of 1 brother, if you’re talking about a friends wedding say it was your brothers wedding, etc…

It’s also possible to make an account using Tails and a proton mail only for Lemmy, for if you want to be really sure.
