Hey, lots of Political Topics coming up that’s just turning into blame games, anger and bad vibes. I’m enacting a temporary rule: no new politic topics for one week as of now.
I recognize that there is a lot of anger around the election and it’s legitimate to feel that way. But I’m willing to bet that none of the political talk in the next week constitutes a ‘Best Of’ post anyway.
That being said: feel free to use this topic (!!!) as political talking points. I’m serious. People deserve to discuss their opinions and I don’t want to hamper them too much.
If you have political stuff to say, say it in here. I’ll promise to lightly moderate this topic, which means this topic will naturally lead to bad vibes and poor arguments.
But we need a place to discuss and vent.
I’ll start, with an opinion that’s definitely uncontroversial /s
Identity politics is dead. People are ready for real change, not corporatism in a leftist skinsuit. It would be so easy to draw people back. Stop talking shit about cishet white men or whatever, talk about how you’re going to help the working class, and then do that.
Stop doing dumb token shit like forcing the master -> main github renaming. The only thing that accomplished was white libs patting themselves on the back while doing jack shit to accomplish real change.
If you don’t like that and think the DNC just lost because of racism/sexism/whatever, that’s fine. Prepare yourself for more fascism as a result of that attitude, though.
I’m simply annoyed that all the news stories post-election have only slightly changed. We went from ‘here’s all the awful things Trump will do if he gets re-elected’ to ‘here’s all the awful things Trump is planning to do now that he’s re-elected’. It’s not really new content, just the same stories over again.
There wasn’t even a week off from it, the man and his coverage is an assault on all the senses and it’s just never ending.
Probably because he is awful, but I understand the frustration.

My dog took a shit on the rug last night and I stood in it this morning with bare feet and it was still more interesting than US politics

It’s nice that you are trying to do the right thing, but you guys really got that Reddit vibe here, where moderators “allow” things instead of “serving” the communities.
But maybe others will like this post more. I like the initiative and trying to talk to users in a mature way.
The only power a moderator has in Lemmy (or Reddit for that matter) is the removal of posts and/or comments. Or more drastic removal (or: banning of users).
It is the only power we have.
