Surprise surprise, the 250 class will be hard to nail down. Hammaker finally gets his win, which is wild cause he seems to always be hovering around the margins, but bad luck has usually followed him everywhere. Shimoda with a disappointing showing, Kitchen with poor starts and mistakes, Beaumer leading some in his return, Davies being healthy and showing some speed. The racing itself may not be close every week, but I imagine the chaos of the week-to-week points will be fun to follow.
Lawrence wins 450! But not the Lawrence most expected. Hunter wins without much issue, with Prado giving some fight but likely being happy to just be near the front given his tumultuous time with Kawasaki. Deegan has lackluster starts in his debut, mixes it up with Jett but doesn’t have the speed, and finished top 5. Jett still suffering from that injury for the time being, but still looks fast. JCoop looks good as well. Big story obviously Tomac with his neck injury, pretty gutted for him. Hopefully he is alright, but hard to tell where that puts him in his career. May be curtains for him.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Rave Ramsy fired one of his employees over premarital sexEnglish
2·24 days agoYou don’t need a law. The US has codified protected classes through quite a bit of different areas like housing, employment, and education; they are race, religion, sex (and factors such as pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity (but who knows with this one), national origin, age (if over 40), and disability/genetic condition. If it isn’t one of those things, then selecting employees based on other traits is not discrimination in the legal sense. You can absolutely bring suit against the employer, but you are the one fighting the uphill battle arguing why unwed non-virgin should be a protected class. It’s also an incredibly hard thing to pursue, because the employee must prove that is why they were fired and that alone, while the employer can just say “that and they didn’t fit values/they were late/I don’t like their voice”. Employees don’t often win.
The employee who was fired while pregnant may well have some case, because they basically admit it’s due to the pregnancy, but who knows where it lands in court because the pregnancy is used as proof of other supposed rule violations.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever met an actual dumb person?English
2·27 days agoNah you’re good lol. I have a lot of clients who aren’t intelligent, but they aren’t dumb either. It was more just me making a general distinction and not a commentary on you.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever met an actual dumb person?English
6·28 days agoAs a matter of “fact”, I work with a bunch of people in the left half of the bell curve. We regularly complete psychological testing, and it’s uncommon that clients are above 100 IQ, tho it’s not surprising when it happens. I would be hesitant to call anyone under 100 IQ “dumb” though. There is a certain level of intent behind it, I think. “Willfully stupid” is a better description.
However, I have recently had a client who called out of work because he “had a horn growing out of his stomach”.
It was a skin tag.

Motorcycles@lemmy.world•MXGP Rd 6: LaCapelle-Marival RecapEnglish
1·28 days agoHerlings and Coenen show in 450, but the story was Tom Vialle red-flagging moto 2, taking Tim Gajser with him. Both would have bike issues and not be allowed to swap, so neither placed in moto 2.
MX2 class looks more wide-open than I previously thought. Farres is looking strong as of late, along with Triumph teammate McLellan. Langenfelder gained some space on Coenen after a lackluster moto 1. If Liam Everts and Camden McLellan can stay consistent, find a little more speed, we could have a sweet 5-way fight for MX2.

Motorcycles@lemmy.world•SMX Rd 17: Salt Lake SX Championship RecapEnglish
1·1 month agoRoczen finally did it. I swore he won a championship in SX before but I was mistaken. Just felt like he’d been there before. After his insane crash in 2017, re-injury in 2018, and then just general struggle for consistency and stamina, it’s nice to see him win. Also I’ve been dying for an old man championship for a while now with Tomac, and we finally get one for Ken. Hopefully Eli is good for start of MX, nasty crash in the heat has me worried for his already injured hip.
Hunter rode well, but Ken played it right biding his time instead of sprinting out and gassing himself. Hunter went down chasing, and that was that. Sexton win going until MX, Prado continues to look more comfortable each week, I think he is going to be a monster in MX.
Cole Davies and Deegan Rd 2 and Davies wins. Makes contact on his own, to the body, and muscles Deegan out. Deegan comes back and folds himself. I think we’ll see a bit of this in his first year or 2 on 450, but I’ve been wrong before. Cole looked great, and Star Yamaha is firmly in the spot Pro Circuit Kawasaki used to hold where they won everything.
To give a little more nuanced answer, I don’t think these are really mutually separate at this moment. They may not always be allies in the future but I think given current mechanisms, they’re pretty intertwined with each other and will be for the foreseeable future.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What hobby or hobbies have you fallen out of lately?English
5·2 months agoI mean I guess technically racing motorcycles. However it’s more of a circumstance thing, getting back into it would take, pretty easily, almost $10k. So I’m getting into MTB and BMX instead now. I absolutely will be back into it the second I’m able to though, up until very recently, I’d spent more years on a motorcycle than off of one. Age 4 to probably 23 I raced. 0-4 and 23-35 I haven’t. Miss it dearly every day, but I’m still very involved in it when I can watch it in-person.
Oh also, last race til GP of France 24th of May.
Forgot to post last week. Regardless, 1 point separates Roczen over Lawrence for the championship going into the finale. Winner wins. I’d love to take Roczen, but idk. His luck just always seems to die in must-win situations, but Hunter is no stranger to bad luck this season or in general. Will be exciting either way.
Tomac came back and looked good. Prado is dialing in starts and I think is going to be a monster outdoors that people aren’t expecting. JCoop and Webb may have some looming battles as well, speed is very similar.
Deegan won again, surprise. Will be interesting to see what he does on 450 outdoor. I was amped for outdoors last season and that fizzled quick. Maybe this year will be different? So many fast dudes. 450 just continually gets stacked deeper and deeper. You’ll have a stupidly strong top 20 this year where I think 10 guys have the ability to win, and it wouldn’t be that surprising.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your opinion of someone who is 26 and still wears a High School uniform in public?English
3·2 months agoThen yeah, that’s at least pretty weird. Is it like…HS logos on it, clearly a high school uniform? Or is it like…work casual clothes that just also happen to meet uniform requirements?

I’ll be honest, I did not watch much of this. I was too amped on SMX and then spent Sunday at a BMX race. Herlings and Coenen again in 450, tho I which we knew what happened to Herlings race 1.
250, other Coenen as well. Langenfelder stumbles, Triumph boys still looking good. Gotta mention Valin’s first win too, guy was amped. Love to see it.
