Proton @lemmy.world•Lumo just got an update and can now generate images!😲English
2·4 months agoThat really makes sense. And as someone whose images have also been sold, I can tell you it truly feels good😊. So it’s awesome that you’re paying your friend and supporting him.

1·4 months agoI simply find it interesting to see what comes out of it. As a hobby artist, I sometimes also start painting without knowing what image will emerge. That’s probably where it comes from.

3·4 months agoHey. I really enjoy creating images. I also like writing fanfiction and combine them together. But only now have I learned that image generation consumes a lot of energy. I hadn’t even thought about this until a few minutes ago. What I hoped was, simply that people would switch from ChatGPT to Protons Lumo. I guess I was too focused on privacy to think about the environment.

4·4 months agoHi, thanks for your comment. To be honest, I never really thought about the energy consumption before because I’ve been focusing more on privacy aspects. But after your comment, I did some research and came across quite a few sources like:
- UN University Report: Environmental Cost of AI
- IEA Report: Energy demand from AI
- MIT Technology Review: Making an image with generative AI uses as much energy as charging your phone
among others. This was all new information to me. So you are right. I was just happy that a privacy-focused company finally added image generation features. But everything seems to come with a price.
Anyway, thank you for the heads-up!

Proton @lemmy.world•HELP : Is support@protonme.zendesk a legitimate Proton address or a potential phishing attempt?English
1·4 months agoPeace be with you. Thx for your advice. I dont know if i do this correctly, but I try and both was from AWS, which sucks because I boycott Amazon. But its legit. I sent a mail (ticket) from a another email account, and they say its real. Again. Thx for help.

2·4 months agoHi, thank you for writing. I hope so. I use proton.me too, and at first I thought the same thing. I really hope you are right and I am wrong, because I like the answers. But on the official website, the subdomain support@protonme.zendesk.com is not on the list. Its all about that. But I hope you are right.

Proton @lemmy.world•HELP : Is support@protonme.zendesk a legitimate Proton address or a potential phishing attempt?English
31·4 months agoHey, it was a long chat. This picture is just an example.
The answers were actually really good and made for perfect sense. They told me, “No, we don’t use Google or Bing.” Sometimes the replies were very short and simple, like: “No, we don’t use them either.”
Regarding the links, they were always formatted like this: Proton Mail (link to proton.me/mail/home) From: support@protonme.zendesk.com
But I didn’t click on them.
I would be really sad if this turned out to be a fake email because I actually liked the answers. I love Mojeek. But this “me” vs. “mail” thing makes me really worry. I hope I’m wrong. Now I can just wait for Protons answer.

I know that. The real subdomain according to Proton is: support@protonmail.zendesk.com.
But the email they sent to me was with ‘protonme’ instead of ‘protonmail’. I’m confused because of that.

154·4 months agoHi. Thanks for writing back.
Honestly, I’m super confused. Because actually phishing is when they ask about your password and all that classic stuff. But no! I had a normal chat. I saw links, and thank God I didn’t click them. But the biggest warning sign is the domain. I can’t find this domain on the official Proton website: https://proton.me/blog/report-phishing-emails
My mail says: support@protonme.zendesk.com
but it should say: support@protonmail.zendesk.com.According to Proton: “if an email claiming to be from us does not have this badge, then it is a phishing attack.” So this must be a phishing attack.
I contacted Proton about four days ago, but they still haven’t answered. So I think I’ll try my luck here.
Peace be upon you. To your question: Yes and no. I find it harmless, almost even creative, when beautiful music mixes are made, or when one of my favorite actors says something funny. But at the same time, it’s very dangerous. And by the way, this is a threat to all voice actors and dubbing professionals. I come from Germany, where dubbing is really important. In any case, it has pros and cons. It depends on who uses it. Actually I don’t blame the AI itself, but rather the people who misuse it.

Upgrading Lumo is really great. For me, it’s a wonderful alternative to ChatGPT. However, I have a question regarding the web search feature. Which index are you using? I boycott big tech companies and don’t want to send data to their servers, even not anonymously! I contacted the Proton support team, and they assured me that you don’t use Google or Bing APIs and that Proton is experimenting with Mojeek, Brave, and Kagi. But Kagi is a meta-search engine that, as far as I know, accesses Google. I’m therefore confused. An answer would be appreciated. Thanks
