Since I invariably wind up getting “name suits” types of comments, here’s the explanation behind it:

Around the turn of the millennium, I was trying to come up with a username to use on a particular site that had a shortish character count limit for usernames. My goal was something related to the fact that I would often be making my points in arguments with “holier-than-thou” types by taking what they were saying, and turning it on its head so the offensive stuff was directed back at them.

I also happened to learn shortly beforehand that many years ago “'ape” was somewhat commonly used as a verb to mean “imitate” or “copy.”

I’m sure you can figure the rest out.

  • So can MAGAts, who are more likely as a whole to be (inadvertently or otherwise) working against true American interests. I’ll grant they may not understand or realize that fact, and so are not entirely deliberately meaning to have that effect - ignorance doesn’t absolve anyone of responsibility for their actions, however.

Never mind there are plenty of young Americans (including multiple ethnic backgrounds) with a significant interest in… shall we say “alternative” forms of government nowadays? Sure some small proportion of those Chinese Americans may be plants, but I’ll wager a much larger majority are not & have a much stronger interest in seeing America live up to it’s oft-stated “ideals” - ones which is is failing miserably at living up to right now.

  • I was already aware of much of what you said, although I probably hadn’t gazed down the road quite as far.

However, what I was referring to was the regulation the commenter I replied to was calling for. What I meant was that proper legislation wouldn’t happen until the “rugpull” you described actually happens, and the economy finally goes into the recession it would otherwise already be deep into at this point. Being delayed so long may make it especially ugly, I fear - or it may just bridge us into the next thing that keeps the economy propped up, such as the robotics you mentioned.

May you live in interesting times, indeed.
