  • The public records from the companies that sell stocks are not so useful anyway.

Obviously I’d prefer to know more about Proton spending, but the examples made in the video like “I want to know how much proton has spent on that YouTube ad” are just impossible. You can open an Apple shareholders report and check it yourself.

Still, I’d rather have no capitalism rather than capitalism + financial transparency reports. One day they will sue you if you don’t pursuit more profit. Not gonna happen with foundations.

edit: I misread the comment and answered like you were referring to openai and google and not mozilla and wikipedia, sorry

It’s like saying Mozilla is a for profit or Wikipedia is a for profit.

Having a for profit company under the non profit ownership is just to ease bureaucracy.

This doesn’t change the fact that the ultimate owner is the foundation and so there is no shareholder to pressure etc.

A counter argument to this could have been exploring the OpenAI case and how it’s trying to get out of the no profit model. But for some reason privacy YouTubers never make that much research into stuff… Almost like they are just earning on that engagement that you get when not being boringly nuanced :)

The YouTuber also states that 9 privacy policies are bad and tbh Proton could probably unify some of them but the thing is that they are actually different: they said in the past, for example, that privacy laws for VPNs in Switzerland are better than those for emails, so it’s pretty ok to have 2 different privacy policies (I wonder if they could at least unifiy drive, mail calendar ones). Google can have just one because it’s simply “we gather as much data as we can” for every service they have.

  • Ohhhh I did not expect such an endorsement :D

    Ty a lot

Predictably rough start because solarpunk and even Reddit are not that famous in italy. Most of the “””scene””” is fine on telegram and discord so asking to speak more in public and less in private is gonna be hard but for the sake of free flow of information and a slower pace social media we will still try u.u

  • Y’all need to learn to read between the lines

Maybe y’all need to stop reading different cases always with the same lens.

Altman is a social climber and even if he is playing to kick out all the people against him, openai is still a no profit. They probably will manage to change but it’s such a different scenario. ChatGPt is the golden goose of the moment in their eyes, no one will give billions and billions of euro to proton just to enshittify

If you think some bad takes make a person, again I think you are the one who should read between the lines and using less the cynism lens

  • I tried searching for n150 minipcs but there is just one on galaxus; probably geekom, beelink and acemagic just don’t know about it

Btw I’d like a source for

    swiss cooperative

To me it looks like a normal company but with big majority of shares held by a coop corporation (that it a corporation made of coops, so galaxus is more an asset of this corp not a full member)

Obviously all of this is still by far better than Amazon so I’ll try ordering from them when the stuff I need is available on it :)

  • If they are paying paypal, you are leveraging paypal to create a threat of violence on them. That’s not very Solarpunk of you.

This message is very ironic after having watched just yesterday the sociology lesson about socialization.

First you express that threats of violence are bad and then you express yourself a threat of violence to me. Because violence is actually used at every level to enforce rules and norms. Your attempt of relying to the menace of getting (at idealism level) kicked from the solarpunks is violence itself.

It’s not very solarpunk to immediately rely on violence while discussing ideas :P

So you do think it’s a real dichotomy?

I can trust people without trusting their, and mine, ability to remember everything. When a friend lends me money (trusting that I won’t just take them and ghost them), I keep a txt for every time I give back part of the money. Not because we don’t trust each other and are scared to steal to each other but because we are humans and don’t want to keep everything in the active memory of the brain when we can just write it down.

It’s a tool that has some functions on the microsociologic level and others at the macro one. On a macro one, yes trust can be a part of it if the platform bears some of the refunds part etc.
