  • So you’re saying running openwrt in a VM is superior to a dedicated box?

I’m currently trying to decide which route to go. I’ve got a Google WiFi router flashed with openwrt, I’m trying to figure out if it supports VLANs or has enough oomph to do what I want.

But also I’m setting up proxmox to play with, and I have a 4 port NIC in the mail, I was thinking about virtualizing opnsense or openwrt.

Care to share more of your thoughts on this?

My main concern, and the concern of others I’ve read online, is that if my server goes down for any reason, the whole network goes down. But with a dedicated box, it’s more likely to just keep chugging no matter what.

Also I’ve heard the network configuration can be harder, more confusing for the VMs and different services running on them (ngix for example). This is a big concern for me because I suck at networking and this will be my first time with VLANs.

  • If I may ask, what conditions?

I’m currently trying to figure out why alcohol triggers migraines for me, but only sometimes. Lately it’s been most times. I only drink socially now, and even then, more often than not I abstain.

I’m not talking big drinking, I mean one Manhattan can either be the beginning of a fun night where I might have two or three more drinks, tops. Or I can feel the headache starting before I even finish the first drink.

Replace whiskey with gin, vodka, beer, wine, whatever. All have the same 50/50 chance of ruining my night and next day, depending on how hard I ignore it. No rhyme or reason to what alcohol does it, though I admit to not being extremely scientific.

Sugar level doesn’t seem to have an effect. Hyper hydration seemingly helps sometimes? But barely. Even with liquid IV or lmnt pregame, no dice. I drink plenty of water every day regardless, I like sugary foods but I avoid pop like the plague.

My recent blood work was all good, fasting glucose was good, so I don’t think it’s diabetes.

Doctor wasn’t extremely helpful. He did recommend trying tiny amounts of alcohol, and different types of alcohol. Trying to see if some combination can bring relief. Then just drink that.

My most recent thought was that maybe it has some connection to my teeth. I get migraines for seemingly no reason, but a bad toothache can definitely be a trigger. I’ve got a couple bad teeth, and I grind. But dentistry is expensive, so it’ll be awhile, if ever, before I find permanent relief there.

  • I’d say 1 or 2 times a week. Sometimes a lot more, sometimes a little less.

That said… My closest friends, the ones that I share the most common interests and hobbies with… I barely see at all. I try to coordinate to see them monthly, but sometimes it’s less. One has kids, the other has health problems.

The friends I hang out with the most, we have less in common, but we all get along well, and have some core interests and hobbies in common that I don’t actually have in common with my closest friends.

The two groups of friends are cordial with each other, but neither of them are as close with each other as I am with them separately. It’s interesting. I guess I have a diverse set of hobbies and friends.

I have other friends mixed in there too that I only see sporadically, that don’t belong to either group. I struggle to make time for them every few months, usually at least a couple times a year, even though we live close by.

I’m glad I have friends, and it’s good to be active and social. But I’m also a bit of an introvert, so some weeks I really just wanna stay home alone and veg. Many nights I do. But most times, if I get an invite to go do something/hang out, I take it. I’m really bad at planning things or inviting people over though, ironically. So I feel like I’ve lost friends over the years from not reaching out enough.

  • I like flavored coffee on occasion. We have two grinders, the slightly lower quality one gets all the flavored beans, they never go into the good grinder.

That said, I got a handful of flavors recently to share with friends. I like to bring our espresso machine glamping, I set it up on a table under a tarp next to our tent, with a 100 foot cord running to a small generator.

When I got home, I tried mixing a little bit of each flavor together. 5 flavors,a few beans from each. It was honestly terrible. Far worse than any individual flavor by itself. It wasn’t unique or interesting, it was bad, and I’ll never do it again 🤷‍♂️

Edit: That said, while I would never put flavored beans in the flavor free grinder, as a matter of principle… I’ve never noticed a problem when changing from one flavor to another in the flavored grinder. So I doubt the grocery store grinder would affect the flavor that much 🤷‍♂️
