You can easily be an environmentalist and still believe in the Star Trek paradigm. While we, that is mankind, might have the ingenuity to find technological solutions to most of our problems, we do not have the political or economic systems necessary to actually put these solutions into reality.

Sadly, they only knew only one song. After singing “7 AM, waking up in the morning, Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs, Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal, …” every day over and over again, they eventually collectively committed suicide.

Might have something to do with the respect, recognition and pay different professions receive by society.
