  • Update: My start date coincided with the general manager’s vacation. Things are very different when she’s on. People who once adapted to the situation and communicated become little mind control ants doing whatever she said as she sits in the middle of the area barking out orders, sometimes incorrect ones. She started yelling at me that I needed to do the drinks while I take the drivethrough orders, despite the system actually being quite screwed up, me being new, and the soda machine malfunctioning so that you baically have to devote 12 seconds of dedicated time to each cup. It was not fun and I got obviously enough annoyed at her that she asked me if I were ok (read: submit to my abuse with good cheer and do not talk back.)

Actually answered the phone after my shift tonight because I expected to get fired, but it was a spam caller (thankfully?).

Still, I prefer this stupidity to my last job, and I think with our schedules, we’re not on together too much.

  • This is largely a legal question: what are your rights, what would your sister have to demonstrate for you to to lose them, etc.?

What the actual situation on the ground is probably varies by where you are–first by country, then by state.

Lots of states of free to low-cost legal aid groups, but they might only be available to consult on a case that exists, not for consultation, but they might have a website that outlines the process for your. I think the key word might be “conservatorship” in the US, which comes in many flavors.

The other part of it is whether your sister would try to do something like that, and that I do not know…

  • Well, since that guy’s blocked me, is there anything wrong with asking a question of a search engine? Two things are:

    1. SEO might optimize for the questions the site answers.
    2. It doesn´t matter how you phrase it, search engines today pull you towards the same results from an average of your keywords. I’ve gotten really frustrated trying to filter search results the way I used to do because all the results are the same no matter what I try.

I wasn’t particularly looking for testimony–that’s what I’m getting here–more a nuanced description of workaholism because she’s self-employed and that makes things a little hazier than someone who is “forced” to be at the office for 60 hours a week.
