Yep that’s scary. My cat is a very light sleeper, so I take extra care not to wake her up when she’s dreaming. But once, she was so calm it looked like she wasn’t breathing, so I disturbed her. That was the one day she was sleeping so soundly she didn’t react. It freaked me up and I shaked her, then she woke up. Goddamn.

Well, that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? Apple promises that can’t happen the way they’ve designed that feature. It’s much more likely to happen with an Amazon echo or a smart tv. So why is so many people (myself included) so uncomfortable with the Apple Watch feature? Maybe it’s an irrational realization of the world we’re heading into

Looks like it’s going to be very close to the original, at least judging by the scenes they chose for the trailer. The camera and scenarios look 1:1 identical to OOT. I like that!

Hope they introduce some bonus content or an Easter egg, but I do think that being faithful to the original is a the right choice.

Solid update. My current AirPods are being slowly destroyed by sweat and rust in the charging area, and I’m happy to see that the new versions are better and cheaper. I’ll probably buy a pair of new ones when mine finally bite the dust.

The mic recording feature is kinda interesting. When I saw it on the video I felt repulsed by the fact that Apple Watches are going to be spying on people.

Then I remembered that watches do have a voice memos app which some people may already activate all the time. And also that phones are constantly listening for assistant activation keywords. Plus, of course, the recording apps.

So, on one hand, if I try to rationalize this new recording feature, it should be no big deal. It doesn’t change the statu quo that much, and Apple has provided some safeguards to avoid anybody from being able to produce a recording of your voice uttering something. I do trust Apple in general, I don’t think they would lie, so technically the feature is pretty safe.

But still… from a visceral point of view I hate it. I can’t avoid this feeling of being spied on — a feeling which I don’t have now, or not as strongly, and maybe I already should.

What are your honest thoughts? I know lemmy hates this type of tech in general, but I would appreciate some nuanced takes from my internet friends. Thanks!

Looks genuinely cool and well thought. I’d love to have one. However in my country the starting price is 2300€ which I cannot justify for a phone. Hope that the price of this technology comes down over time.

Great opportunity to dispose of a cat which you can pet regularly

I’ve been on lemmy since the beginning. My recommendation is to check the more wholesome communities, pets, and fandom. They’re very active and people there are great. I see more negativity in the news communities (world, tech…), so depending on your preferences maybe get your news and comment from somewhere else.

Oh I would love that much more than any new gadget 😂
