So I just got banned from Reddit for simply liking a post. Apparently it fell under their category of the number one rule of harassment, discrimination bulling the rest of it. I simply just liked a post. I didn’t share the post or comment anything discriminating, just liked it. 4 days later I received a permanent ban message. Of course I appealed stating the above facts of not saying or sharing anything to break their rule because I enjoyed engaging with my people in the communities I was interactive with, only to receive the message of the ban will still be in place. Fuck Reddit. They obviously want it to be a la la la all is happy and controlled land.

This is not exactly surprising, but honestly if you think this won’t happen on Lemmy as well then you’re in the wrong place. It might not be happening right this moment, but I guarantee there are people who want something like this here too. The only upside to Lemmy is that you can move to another instance, which comes with the obvious downside that you will basically be forced to make new friends. Which is not an easy task.

It already happens, .ml (Well really the whole Tankie Triad, Hexbear and grad is only harder because they’re pretty widely defed’d from) will site-ban you for posts and comments on other instances that dare criticize their Tankie nature

It definitely happens here. I actually was surprised it could be detected on Reddit and they did anything because I’ve seen it on Lemmy first before ever hearing about it on Reddit.

But I’ve heard it happen more so for users who are downvoting posts. I’ve heard both users downvoting on a large scale in a particular community as well as people downvoting a single post. Both receiving bans from mods of those communities.

Yeah, this is a big reason why I say Lemmy should not be showing who upvotes or downvotes posts or comments. Its not about hiding bad actors, its about protecting people from abusive moderators, because unfortunately not all moderators are paragons of justice.

I realize the irony of me saying this considering I am a .world community moderator, but rest assured I don’t care about personal dispute, as a moderator I only care about whether someone is breaking the rules or being a general nuisance to the community. I should never be able to see who is voting on what.

I went to look and the stock has gained more than 300% since it was introduced a few years ago.

      I hate reddit.
