The numbers never get reported accurately and it doesn’t help that Hamas lies.

Hamas reports all natural deaths as caused by Israel. That’s at least 10,000 natural deaths that Hamas lied about. .

Hamas aid 500,000 would die of famine by February 2024. They didn’t.

Hamas lies didn’t help the Gazan people.

Now Donald Trump is involved and wants real genocide. Trump stopped all USAID to Gaza. Biden sent 300 million.

Luckily Saudi Arabia told him to go fuck himself.

We’ve all seen the before and after pics of Gaza. We’ve all seen the videos of Israel’s war crimes against Palestinian people. Are you going to tell us Hamas is lying about that too? You seem to be an expert on the truth of what’s happening over there.

No no, the children are Hamas, the buildings are Hamas, the food is Hamas, the journalists are Hamas, the aid conveys are Hamas, the UN is Hamas, the ICC and ICJ are Hamas. It’s Hamas all the way down, or at least it would be if anyone had been harmed, but nobody has been. Neighbourhoods just sometimes collapse.

Trump elected, suddenly the free Palestine protests seem to have stopped. I’m sus on the whole thing. I worked with a bunch of young Egyptian dudes who all said Hamas was the biggest problem in the area.

Interesting you talk about feeling safe:

‘Huge rise in antisemitism’: Top cop says thousands of officers deployed to hotspots in Melbourne suburbs

He said such reports had surged since Hamas militants killed 1200 people in the October 7, 2023

The reported antisemitic incidents spanned from verbal and physical abuse of people in the Jewish community, to vandalism, a neo-Nazi demonstration on the steps of parliament, and a firebombing of a Melbourne synagogue, he said.

So glad I don’t live in Melbourne right now, firstly a person got fired over tweets because of the jews shakes fist and on the other side threats, intimidation, a neo-nazi demonstration, physical abuse and firebombs

What has gotten into the water in Melbourne? Too much social media?

Sorry, but it really feels like you’re minimising genocide here, by suggesting the wide-spread censorship of anti-genocide voices in our media is not a serious problem.

          I don’t think it’s a genocide tbh

Ok, so we’ve got genocide denial coming in right here.

Basically every reputable expert disagrees with you.

Meanwhile, your best source can’t even be called anything more than “allegations”.

And even if Israel isn’t committing genocide, they’re undoubtedly creating apartheid conditions and regularly committing war crimes including targeting medics and journalists. And they’re the country with all the power in this situation. We rarely look at the harm caused by black South Africans, or by 1910s–1920s Irish republicans, or American revolutionaries, and say that they were equally as bad as their oppressors.

I feel bad for the innocent Jewish Australians who are being targeted by attacks. I really do. But a significant part of the blame lies on Israel for drumming up anger towards Jews by its deliberate attempts to conflate antisemitism with antizionism, giving genuine antisemites a convenient shield to hide behind. And also with many of the more vocal prominent members of the Australian Jewish community for taking Israel’s side and helping share their propagandistic outlook.

            Really?

Various observers, including the UN Special Committee to investigate Israeli practices and the United Nations Special Rapporteur,[35] have cited statements by senior Israeli officials that may indicate an “intent to destroy” Gaza’s population in whole or in part, a necessary condition for the legal threshold of genocide to be met.[31][36][37]

They have statements that may indicate possibly the legal definition to be met, sounds solid, I would have thought millions of dead bodies would be a better indicator of a clear intent to genocide but they obviously don’t have those.

**Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas official, stated in a late October 2023 interview that the October 7 attack against Israel was just the beginning. He vowed to launch “a second, a third, a fourth” attack until the country was “annihilated”, asserting: “We are victims – everything we do is justified.”[26][27][28] **

So the exact same legal definition can be met here as well! A++ solid work UN

And they’re the country with all the power in this situation

            And Good!

This is what the whole area would look like if Hamas had their way, the UN of course can be seen on a continent far away helping out by writing as many strongly worded letters as fast as it can.

Secondly the Islamic jihadi’s probably should have thought about that before they attempted to genocide Israel, their bad I guess?

            they’re undoubtedly creating apartheid conditions

If Hamas wants less Palestinian deaths they are free to fight the IDF on the battlefield and prevent their citizens from dying instead of hiding in schools, hospitals, homes and cafes, but they won’t because they’ll lose, so this is the result

Yikes. You somehow think that statement plays in your favour‽ Intent is a necessary legal prerequisite to genocide. But it’s not sufficient. You have to actually effect the death, relocation, or separation from their culture of a significant percentage of the targeted group. No reasonable person could claim that Hamas has done that, even if they may have the desire to do so.

This is what the whole area would look like if Hamas had their way

You mean Hamas, the militant organisation that was backed by Netanyahu specifically because Israel wanted to destabilise Palestine? That Hamas?

If Hamas wants less Palestinian deaths they are free to fight the IDF on the battlefield and prevent their citizens from dying instead of hiding in schools, hospitals, homes and cafes

Ooh. Love it. “It’s not war crimes because that child was Hamas. Totally. We swear.” Fuck off with that bullshit. You are an evil fucking bastard, trying to justify the wholesale slaughter of thousands of people whose only “crime” was pushing back against decades of severe oppression.

Nah I’ve done internet arguments since like 2001 back on overclockers australia and whirlpool and about 10 years ago decided that it’s mainly a waste of time, so I have a hard line with myself not to carry these arguments on, really not that interested in it anymore, I avoided looking at this thread 100 times but it got me on the 101st (that’s my fault)

I really wish coding gave the same dopamine spikes as arguing on the internet did… (anyway, back to coding)

          It’s a genocide.

          Israel's Genocide on Occupied Palestine

Our first-hand observations of the medical and humanitarian catastrophe inflicted on Gaza are consistent with the descriptions provided by an increasing number of legal experts and organizations concluding that genocide is taking place in Gaza.

It examines the killing of civilians, damage to and destruction of civilian infrastructure, forcible displacement, the obstruction or denial of life-saving goods and humanitarian aid, and the restriction of power supplies. It analyses Israel’s intent through this pattern of conduct and statements by Israeli decision-makers. It concludes that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

On 26 January 2024, the ICJ said that it was plausible that Israel had breached the Genocide Convention. As an emergency measure, it ordered Israel ensure that its army refrained from genocidal acts against Palestinians.

The ICJ reported, as part of its decisions in March and May, that the situation in Gaza had deteriorated and that Israel had failed to abide by its order in January.

So, when we look at the actions taken, the dropping of thousands and thousands of bombs in a couple of days, including phosphorus bombs, as we heard, on one of the most densely populated areas around the world, together with these proclamations of intent, this indeed constitutes genocidal killing, which is the first act, according to the convention, of genocide. And Israel, I must say, is also perpetrating act number two and three — that is, causing serious bodily or mental harm, and creating condition designed to bring about the destruction of the group by cutting off water, food, supply of energy, bombing hospitals, ordering the fast evictions of hospitals, which the World Health Organization has declared to be, quote, “a death sentence.” So, we’re seeing the combination of genocidal acts with special intent. This is indeed a textbook case of genocide.

More than 800 scholars of international law and genocide have signed a public statement arguing that the Israeli military may be committing genocidal acts against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as the total siege and relentless airstrikes continue to inflict devastation on the occupied territory.

An independent United Nations expert warned Monday that “Israel’s genocidal violence risks leaking out of Gaza and into the occupied Palestinian territory as a whole” as Western governments, corporations, and other institutions keep up their support for the Israeli military, which stands accused of grave war crimes in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Our documentation encompasses over 500 incitements of violence and genocidal incitement, appearing in the forms of social media posts, television interviews, and official statements from Israeli politicians, army personnel, journalists, and other influential personalities.

I, Lee Mordechai, a historian by profession and an Israeli citizen, bear witness in this document to the situation in Gaza as events are unfolding. The enormous amount of evidence I have seen, much of it referenced later in this document, has been enough for me to believe that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian population in Gaza. I explain why I chose to use the term below. Israel’s campaign is ostensibly its reaction to the Hamas massacre of Oct. 7, 2023, in which war crimes and crimes against humanity were committed within the context of the longstanding conflict between Israelis and Palestinians that can be dated back to 1917 or 1948 (or other dates). In all cases, historical grievances and atrocities do not justify additional atrocities in the present. Therefore, I consider Israel’s response to Hamas’ actions on Oct. 7 utterly disproportionate and criminal.

Others: AP News, Time, Reuters, Vox, CBC

In the Shadow of the Holocaust by Masha Gessen, the situation in Gaza is compared to the Warsaw Ghettos. The comparison was also made by a Palestinian poet who was later killed by an Israeli airstrike. Adi Callai has also written on the parallels in his article The Gaza Ghetto Uprising and expanded upon in his corresponding video

I think social media is blowing this out of proportion and making it sound bigger than it is.

I work in northern Melbourne which has a huge middle eastern community (and big emphasis on community), that for the most part just lives their lives without bringing middle eastern trouble here.

The pro gaza protests last year on occasion saw people go a bit far but no different to union rallies. I think people are nastier at costco or boxing day sales.
