Sorry to be the one to break it to you but that is because you are old. My kids listen to distinct music, play distinct games and know a whole group of celebrities I never heard of and will look back at the 20s as their teenage years that were distinct from the time that they look back on it from.

even the olds knew what “it’s the 90s” meant in the 90s

sure there is always distinct trends and new things but the decade is no longer a cultural force. and it’s as much to do with not having a word for the first 2 decades as with the internet and social media fracturing mainstream culture.

Also those distinct games wouldn’t happen to be Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnight by any chance? because they where not even made this decade.

Well, my kids are in university so, no.

The point is they know what the 2020s is. I had this conversation with them and they were able to pick out distinct styles and talk about all sorts of local and international stuff they listen to and watch. They have friends and go to local shows. They have their own thing going on. They can look at pictures from the 2000s, 2010s and now and tell the difference where I can’t. Just because you’re out of touch and seemingly miserable doesn’t mean no one has a distinct identity today lol.
