The Trump administration has excluded smartphones from its steep “reciprocal” tariffs as it battles to calm global markets by tempering its approach to the multifront trade war launched by the president.

According to a notice posted late on Friday night by Customs and Border Patrol, which is responsible for collecting tariffs, smartphones, along with routers and selected computers and laptops, would be exempt from reciprocal tariffs, which include the 125 per cent levies Donald Trump has imposed on Chinese imports.

This is truly the dumbest roller coaster.

No one is moving manufacturing anywhere because everyone knows Donny Dumbass is going to change his mind next time he takes a shit.

Honestly, someone build a toothbrush factory somewhere in kansas so these idiots can save face, rescind all tariffs, and let the grown ups get back to producing value.

All that big talk about forcing countries to negotiate

Trump indeed touts tariffs as international leverage, but they are just as much if not more of a domestic power play that forces US businesses to kiss the ring in order to get exemptions. Businesses that pledge allegiance keep their supply chains and survive, whereas those that don’t satisfy the Mango get to pay tariffs and compete with exempted businesses in a weakening consumer market with decreasing purchasing power.

    Of course he did.

This whole tariff thing was a shakedown, and a strategy to enrich his cronies via stock manipulation.

While that may be what happened on Friday, declaring that to be the intended outcome ascribes waaaay too much forethought and planning to what is happening. There is none. That’s the truly horrifying part. In the last week Don has lost more money than anyone ever in the history of the world and he has achieved that by surrounding himself by yes-barbi’s and yes-ken’s and then acting on vibe-based meme-level reasoning with no filter.

But his uber rich masters made out like bandits buying up the depreciated stock, then reselling when they rose days later. Green is in the spotlight over it, because she’s so arrogant, being a trust fund millionaire’s daughter, that she thinks she’s untouchable.

Let’s be clear. Trump is a demented, narcissistic idiot, a useful fool. He’s not in charge of anything. He’s doddering around his golf course. The people who are handling him for the Oligarchs, and the Oligarchs themselves, are the true danger.

I’m not going to disagree with that, there are certainly people who are benefiting from his chaotic nature, and how easily manipulated he is.

That said, I still think it’s a mistake to think that anyone has any strategy or plan.

As I stated, Trump doesn’t. His one and only motivation is to appear to be a badass.

            His masters, however…

This guy is such a sad caricature of a true leader. All he does is whine and cry for attention. The moment some true leader stand up to him he folds immediately. People who fell for this shit have reasoning skill of an ameba.

Just as an observation, the design on those phone screens look like spiders. Colorful spiders. Like if spiders became power rangers.

I’m glad you cleared up being against his tariffs. What about his sexism?

So much going on in this comment. What does being a “real man” or a “menstruating woman” have to do with having courage in your convictions?

Maybe I’m missing subtle irony? I get it that this is traditional republican language. But this reads like an affirmation of these gender stereotypes.

I think there are better ways of illustrating republican cognitive dissonance than parroting it in your critique of them.

no that’s what a rational person should do after making a mistake. you want him to double down on worse recession and worse inflation?

Ok same story about him backing down a bit on illegals who work in farm industries, and said he would even give these workers in paeticular a path to get their papers and work legally. but you want what? do you want him to double down on a stupid racist decision that would destroy all the farming industries?

to be clear im against everything he does. but we are already stuck with him for more 3.5 years… why the fuck would I want him to double down on decisions that hurt millions of disadvataged people. it takes humility and guts to own up and admit you made a mistake.
