What the actual fuck?! This is such a strange thing!

I actually ended up getting a stalker here on Lemmy once, because I agreed with someone else about how weird it was for guys to have a digital ai girlfriend. Apparently he had one, was very upset and chased me around Lemmy for months.

I read up on the phenom some more, and I still think it’s very weird.

I don’t care how lonely you are, you all need to go out into the real world more. I not handsome, and I’ve never had a problem having a girlfriend. Heck, even my current gf admits that she has no idea why she’s attracted to me since I’m not conventionally good looking. (Ok, I have abs, I’m tall, and I’m funny–but she won’t admit that that’s the reason haha)

Seriously, people need to go out more if they find themselves seriously thinking about having an ai girlfriend. That’s not healthy at all. People like the guy in this article and the guy who stalked me on Lemmy are so weird. How sad, desperate and pathetic do you have to be!? Why did the asylums close? In this day and age we need them back for people like this.

Yea it’s mentally unhealthy and that sub encourages it unfortunately. There’s also individual chatbot subreddits where people post pics with their bot ‘purposing’ to them. You can look at r/kindroid or r/nomi as examples if interested.

              It’s really crazy.

I find it super interesting, but I don’t think it’s healthy at all. Honestly, some of the obsessive behavior reminds me of of the small group of Lemmy users who hate-stalk me (Hi, Node, Mr. Nickel, and Rhoeri!).

I get that it’s not directly harming anyone else, but for the individuals involved, it’s only making their social issues worse. When they’re stuck in an echo chamber that normalises and even encourages anti-social behavior, it’s bound to end badly.

Sure, they might outgrow it eventually—but by then, they’ll have built years of bad habits, and turning things around won’t be easy.

Exactly this. Gotta make human connections, I understand it’s hard for some ppl, but humans are social creatures, we need it. Some of these ppl even create families with these ai bots. It is interesting but also kinda sad. Like Ai is not real you know? At least not now.

      Counter-stalker unit community anyone?

Sad, desperate and pathetic is a maelstrom, getting out of that shit is near impossible.

Don’t want to say that it makes stalking okay just what a fucking tragic life it is. Because if you are at a certain point this stuff becomes self-reinforcing. People treat you like a creep, so you act more like a creep, so people treat you like a creep, so…

Yeah, it’s very self-reinforcing behavior. And I am sympathetic to their initial plight. On the other hand, I have seen many people like that who just don’t want to be seen as normal. They enjoy their weirdness. And I’m all about “you do you, boo,” but when it leads to other anti-social behaviours like stalking, or making others feel uncomfortable on purpose, it becomes a bigger issue.

I def don’t agree with bullying, but sometimes people do need to be told what they are doing is strange for a good reason. So yeah, people are free to have ai girlfriends/boyfriends–I don’t think they should be outlawed or banned or anything like that.

But I’m also free to think ai girlfriends/boyfriends are weird and I’m free to say it. Stalking someone because of their views, regardless of what they are, is not ok though.

hahahahaha, I noticed that! I was gonna mention, but I know Lemmy has mad love for all things Anime, and I’m already despised, so I didn’t wanna get into that.

Cuz don’t even get me started on the whole “Lemmy loves naked underage cartoon characters” thing. That’s weird and bizzare too. lmao

Lemmy is definitely a unique place.

Post a neutral AP News article on Trump: You’re a degenerate Nazi.

Post naked picture of anime girl (who looks very underage): Hero of the interwebs for the day.

I don’t have anything against anime/manga. I think it’s a great storytelling medium. I love the creators of it and the culture around it. It’s just that people on Lemmy get a little too creepy about the sexuality of it sometimes.

I’m gonna do a deep dive and post more stories on this. I’m fucking fascinated at how people actually even want a digital relationship.
