1810 - The Catacombs were established
The Paris Catacombs were built to burry people due to lack of space of cemeteries, they took the remains of the dead and moved them into the new catacombs.
you can easily get lost without a flashlight, it is easy to lose your path due to huge passages and endless possibilities:

Paris Catacombs Lost Man Footage In the footage, an unknown man can be seen running in the catacombs, clearly he is stressed and not sure of his whereabouts, suddenly he begins to run away and drops his camera (you can listen to his footsteps when he drops the camera).
It is not sure why he dropped the camera and what kind of entity he encountered at that time that made him run away in stress. Obviously this place is hunted, many remains of the dead are spread around the catacombs.

The person was not found but the camera was found and later the footage was shared and spread to show awareness that getting lost in the Catacombs is not a fun game.
Imagine what happens if you lose your flashlight battery inside the Catacombs… Yeah pretty scary, you can enter the Catacombs yourself as the entrance is open for the public.
Just be aware that you’re probably not going to be alone inside the catacombs and you can easily get lost.

It really could be a hoax - but it is certainly a great story, the type that you would want to believe.
Does anyone happen to recollect the name of that film that takes place in the Paris catacombs where the big twist is that he has paid some of his friends to spook the girl running through the catacombs… as a prank… But she has successfully just killed like a bunch of his friend? LOL… That was a great horror film twist, IMO.
It does bring something suspicious, but the footage has circulated through the whole internet, yet there is no answer to if this is a hoax or not.
Yes, but in defense of the hoax: the people who recorded it could’ve “found” it themselves. It’s just a guy with a group of other guys staging it, then one of them releasing it weeks later… Or even that day.
It’s quite easy to do a hoax of something like this…
I am curious, though, was there something about the originator where it was an ironclad story?
BTW how crazy would you feel in that moment, LOL… Like, imagine you FOUND it, and then you flip it on and are like “oh just some guy boppin around the catacombs like me but I wonder what made him lose it here…” and then you see the chase.
The catacombs would get perceptibly darker and scarier in that moment, I am sure.
But yeah man I am not an asshole who goes “Ohhh it’s fake, it’s just fake, period… Not real…!” I don’t believe in doing that… I only say this to point out how it is hard to even verify stuff like this - verify them even a little.
I appreciate your way of saying things. Yeah, nothing is pretty much clear nowadays, that’s why things are still remained unknown and mysterious and I kinda like that :D
I’m inclined to think it’s a hoax, though I have no doubt that the catacombs are a very scary place to get accidentally lost in, especially alone.
I’ve wandered through a perfectly safe, open to the public, old abandoned mine shaft before and the feeling you get in the dead silence with pitch black darkness behind you is chilling.
