minus-squareNeuromancer@lemm.eeMlinkfedilinkarrow-up5·26 days agoIt’s the blocking federal law enforcement that’s the issue. They don’t have to help but actively blocking is criminal. This is a really bad look for the mayor since the focus is on violent criminals. If arrested and convicted, he’d never be able to hold office again. Not a smart move.
minus-squarejordanlund@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up4·26 days agoIt’s a bad look either way. You give in to the knee-jerk deportation movement… and end up paying reparations decades later, or you resist and are breaking federal law. They’ve set up a lose/lose situation here.

minus-squarejordanlund@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·26 days agoThe problem there is, they have no intention of limiting it like that. It will START that way, then it will become “Well, we can’t separate the family because of one criminal… better deport all of them…” https://www.politifact.com/article/2024/nov/14/in-context-tom-homans-comments-that-fam/ “Is there a way to carry out mass deportation without separating families?” correspondent Cecilia Vega asked him. “Of course there is,” Homan answered, “families can be deported together.”
minus-squareNeuromancer@lemm.eeMlinkfedilinkarrow-up3·26 days agoWell that is the right answer but I suspect many of the violent felons don’t have family here. It is a right to illegally immigrate to the United States. It’s a privilege to come to this country. Now if we believe Vance, their goal is 1 million per year. That’s a drop in the bucket. It’s nothing more than a focus on worst people.
