You can try the sanctus demo yourself and see if it works for you on Blender running on Linux. Alt tab easy fog 2 says win/mac and a reviewer had issues running it on linux, i tried another material addon, the materials work but previews in its ui are broken.

I had a few not install, some say that linux isnt supported in reviews and dont work like alt tab easy fog 2, and sanctus are the ones I remember off the top of my head (sanctus menu didn’t work and caused blender to freeze, took me forever to realize it was soemthing I was appending that had a sanctus material causing my crash, didn’t realize til I installed the addon on a fresh install and tried applying it to something getting the same issue)

Maybe Linux, too lazy to swap back to windows, a lot of random stuff doesnt work or is super annoying to get working, like a material library addon I use for Blender doesn’t work for linux apparently (sanctus) and makes it so I cant render with any light in the scene so its not just the menu but the materials themselves. I was hoping at least blender would work, already had to stop pirating houdini and I couldnt get the free version to work either.

At least embergen seems to work, so I might transition to jangafx over houdini, can buy it monthly and I spend way too much time learning houdini (its fun af) when im likely never making money off this hobby. (cant justify 300$ a year or 2500 perpetual rnow, its an insanely fun simulation toy so it honestly might be worth that, even not making money off it) Its just annoying, I’ve spent too much time learning it, my brains crammed with Houdini specific information.

Its adhd, I had/have it didnt get diagnosed, you could force yourself to learn the hard way (I got disqualified and had to get reinstated took me z6 years instead of 4 for my Bs and I swapped to information systems, which I regret, I gaslighted myself into not liking programming when I just needed to start my work earlier) For me, a mix of getting older, and failing enough times, plus the disqualification, is what got me to goto class and do my work, I wouldn’t have done it otherwise, which is why getting diagnosed is necessary.

I used my sisters adderal sparingly the last two years and I mightve not got through without it, some days I would wake up just not caring about anything, super lazy, demotivated, etc. It was pure luck when id do well a semester because I just happened to not wake up feeling bad or oversleep a final that semester. And it’s not a choice, why would anyone choose to not do what they want to do when they have the time, just never have energy or have too much.

Relearning wordpress after many years since freelance webdev seems viable, the big companies hella pricegouge, its fun to research viable plugins and setup some websites to test. Messed with fediverse hosting for a minute but I took the easier way out and got bored (yunohost), gonna retry with docker eventually, half the fun is set up.
Just setup/swapped to linux (cachyosarch) from a lifetime of windows this week too, got windows 11 kvm/qemu and winapps working today, so I can pirate houdini and touch designer (piracy is hard on linux, couldnt find houdini and touch designer isnt supported). Found out about the windows activation script and got pro and office for free which is nice.

I just really love the default ui of thunder, it nailed what I want for lemmy usage, makes the ocassional lage/wrrors less of an issue. Also like consistent ui across devices, but I find it too annoying to type on my tablet to browse lemmy there.

I have to get around to customizing it, thunder is mostly solid, a bit laggy sometimes, arctic is prob a better move on ios, I just wanted to get used to it, since piefed is forking thunder for their ios app and that will probably be my main eventually. Arctic is definitely more optimized for ios and the fastest I’ve used.

I think making your own instance is a big enough barrier to entry to avoid trolls, fediseer exists but has issues if you change your domain but use the same ip.

I agree honestly, swapping to invite only being federated together, with onboarding could work, could be abused like anything but itd be a way to avoid trolls in the invite only servers and figure out whos bringing them in

Is what I was going to say but then I rememebered I kinda taught and got a few ppl started cooking, you kinda just need to learn to experiement and be okay with failure, a lot of ppl just dont want to ruin their meal or waste food, gotta cook when you aren’t hungry for the love of the game lol.
