I like to ask a variety of questions, sometimes silly, serious, and/or strange. Never asking in an attempt to pester or “just asking questions” stuff.
I’m generally curious and/or trying to get a sense of people’s views.
Unsurprisingly, more closely related species of similar body size and microhabitat use are more likely to be engaged in misdirected amplexus with each other.
So…They’re similar enough that any arousal confusion is incidentally amplified? I guess they may not be similar enough for this behavior to be successful and produce increased genetic diversity among themselves, though? 🤨
What about ON? Symbiotic/commensalist relationship of letting the beetle rest around your eyes for illusion of wondrous eyelashes?
Aside from personally posting more regularly there, any advice or ideas for getting !likethismaylike@lemm.ee going? Had a few people early on posting and even some people beside myself replying to them, but it rapidly trailed off from there and felt a little too much like I was only using it for myself.
Started to make other types of post to help show it’s as much for sharing as asking, but while the posts had some passive positive attention, it didn’t net much more activity.
Thanks for some detail! What you describe reassures me in my decision not to get further into it, particularly as a professor path seemed one of few traditional options with what I studied.
Are doctorate/grad school programs distinctly competitive? My impression was that they were more challenging but similar in nature to undergrad insofar as loads of coursework to stay on top of to complete courses and ensure you got some of the most expensive, “You endured it!” paperwork in the world.
Is there an AcademicDictionary in the vein of Urban Dictionary for all the jargon and filler patterns?
Appreciate the thoughtful reply! I can see where you’re coming from in terms of opening TLDs up creating a bunch of issues, even though I do still enjoy the more playful ones despite that.
It’s honestly a little surprising that so many have been made available given the issues it can present, but I think that’s largely a byproduct of approaching the internet less from a rigidly structured perspective and more of a loose informal perspective.
do you think you’d be able to tell if it was instead a massive homelab run by the microorganisms in your house?
Personally, the childish side of me will always get a kick out of .wtf in a website name.
Anywhere it’s generally okay to look/find things
Why is this all so convoluted and, seemingly, legal? Is this purposely convoluted to obfuscate illegal activity?
If I just wanted to label it, colored tape. I don’t know if colored masking tape is ideal – my experience has been that masking tape left on a surface for a long time leaves some goo, though Goo Gone might get that off. But I suspect that it’d stay on the thing for a long time.
Yeah, the gooey factor is one of the only reasons I’ve been somewhat iffy on using masking tape for this purpose. However if it holds up to where it doesn’t need replacement, could be a nonfactor all things considering.
Opinions on sites like LinkedIn or similar in your region for work? Do you have a profile set up and maintained as semi-obligatory? Or do you prefer a separate professional site for networking? Both?
Which kinds did you have in mind? Some that occur to me have far too brief interactions (or times to interact) to invite those opportunities.
Rewatching Venture Bros. in order after only having seen it on tv years ago aired out of order makes a massive difference, too. I didn’t realize how many episodes I’d seen were really from earlier seasons.
Does Bluesky? Have they been running marketing? Much of what I’ve seen/heard of it has been more a result of Twitter imploding and people bringing up alternatives than any concerted marketing pushes.
edited for clarity, realized I’d overlooked Threads mention
Isn’t this sort of a reframing of curiosity, or other basic characteristics of an active mind, such as receptivity? Mental adaptability may also fit neatly here.
Have you seen the !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world community? This would be a good post there as well, I think!
Sorry. This is why I included the bonus question:
what does it mean to be too online anymore?
This wasn’t included in jest but in recognition that for many now there isn’t any too online, it’s simply the means of socializing, among other things.
What does this stand for, and what are these (in layman’s terms anyway, not expecting a deep dive)?
