In an effort to secure the development and use of artificial intelligence (“AI”), the proposed rule requires U.S. IaaS providers and their foreign resellers to report known instances of foreign persons training “large AI models with potential capabilities that could be used in malicious cyber-enabled activity” to Commerce.

yeah…its just surreal. I grew up when there was no Internet at all. Now we have bots mining data from a website to get more human-like responses (and more $$). Its a strange world.

Almost makes it useless to bother posting on online forums anymore, if you end up just wasting your time talking to an AI bot, instead of another human.

Which is a weird way lets the 1% win. If the rest of us can’t converse with each other because the ‘virtual town square’ becomes so polluted that meaningful conversation with other humans cannot happen.

For the record, I’m not the only one, nor the first one, to do it. I saw someone else do it, and decided to adopt it for myself as well. I’m aware of three people (and one large company) who are currently licensing their content here on Lemmy.

I wonder if that would have any effect.

To answer your question, basically for Federation reasons (if I had to guess).

Its the same way with when you block someone, you’re not blocking them from the seeing you, you’re blocking yourself from seeing them. They can still respond to your comments and you wouldn’t know they had.

Also, it was all over the news and online and in papers that the ACA and trying to get it passed over the finish line was a lot of hard work, that took a lot of time and effort, that it ‘sucked up all the oxygen in the room’ for other stuff.

This is it. Trump didn’t give a flying shit at all if anything he did was legal, he just went for it, and it worked.

That’s a problem with your mobile client, you’ll need to speak to the devs of your client about that.

Are you prepared to shell out potentially 10’s of thousands of dollars to actually defend your license? That’s my biggest question in this, because if not it really is a waste of time and effort.

Well if the license is flagrantly ignored I’m sure Creative Commons would probably have something to say about it.

You’re way underestimating and underemphasizing Obamacare, and the impact it took to get it into law.

Obamacare was a huge get for the Democrats, and while it wasn’t Medicare for all that we all wanted, especially with the Republicans fighting tooth and nail to deny him, that was a huge win.

It took a lot of effort in time to get Obamacare, which took all the oxygen out of the room for doing other things.

One of my housemates has a brother printer and I was testing some stuff out on LMDE and noticed it was available to print to. No searching for it or driver to be installed or anything. I don’t actually need to print but that’s pretty cool.

People keep missing that I’m talking about a all-in-one, and not just a simple printer-only.

I never had a problem with the printing part of the all-in-one printer, but the scanning and faxing stuff required the Brother driver support, and that wad not natively supported, or were supposed to be supported but it didn’t work well, or at all. There were issues with 32-bit versus 62-bit libraries, etc.

Took years to get to a point where the brother drivers would just install and everything would work right. And not everything ever worked right from native Linux.
