  • You see an issue crop up in many areas where something is generally found distasteful by society at large, so it is made illegal by various means, leading to greater harm than if it was just legal and regulated. You will not eliminate demand, therefore you will not eliminate those attempting to supply the demand. If sex work was legalized and regulated, it would be much safer for the workers, customers, and even those who choose not to engage with it all. The current legal environment creates space for trafficking/slavery, public health concerns, and a lack of physical safety for all. While a legal and regulated industry won’t completely remove the black market, it would greatly reduce it and the harms it causes. Is there still demand for dusty garage tattoos? Yes, but that is certainly not the majority of the market.

  • I’ve worked on both sides of the house for 14 years and I’m in management now. The issue is once you open products, not when they’re sitting there. Sitting there is also an issue, however, as stock that doesn’t move still incurs costs. I work on the institutional side now and we only provide nonalcoholic beverages, but they are either single serve or cheap bulk prep. These are not what people are expecting at a restaurant. Many items in cocktails also have long shelf lives after opening or are cheap/move quickly.

  • Ultimately, it probably doesn’t matter. Your wife may have a point, but it is completely negated by the fact she’s introducing contaminants from her hand to the food. Using a clean item to remove the excess may be beneficial, especially if the liquid drying can make it hard to open. Again, all of this is splitting hairs if your food is generally stored correctly and nobody is at particular risk for food borne illness. You’re at home, not serving others in a restaurant.

  • That bit about “when a game install was an experience” or whatever the actual phrasing is, hit that nostalgia.

I remember when saved up enough from my paper route and rode to the store after school to pick up AoEII and got home and started the install on the computer I had built from spare parts. My pops got home while I was still on the first disc part of the install and sat and watched the install slides with me. When the first disc was finished and ejected, he ran to the main family pc to start the install there. I didn’t play play until his install was also finished so we could both play on the LAN (with a single copy! Kids don’t know!). We had just started the first game when my grandma hit me on AIM to say she was trying to call and to get off the internet.

    Nostalgia like a motherfucker.

  • I’m a millennial and have been called a “doomer” because I realize it’s essentially too late. I know people don’t like to think that, but the reality is that nothing of any significance has or is being done to curb global warming. You couple that with the fact we’ve literally poisoned everything, including ourselves, with no way to clean it up and I don’t see the quality of life for humans being great after 2050. You can blow me off as a shill if you’d like, but this is just reality. Additionally, my generation and gen z have a significant number of fascists and the pollution continues, so I don’t think that’s the solution you’re hoping for. I’d love to be wrong, but that isn’t backed by the facts.
