Yep, as I said, there’s only soon much you can do, and supervision and education are the be-all-and-end-alls. At the same time the internet is a horrific place and kids are impulsive and stupid (especially when spurred on by peers), so it makes sense to take additional steps and use additional tools where possible. Thats what I’m asking about primarily, tools to assist in parenting, not replace it.

I was assuming something like that would be used, but even then, its still a bunch of additional drag for little or no gain relative to existing options. As another comment pointed out, tailsitters are pretty comparable in benefits, but they also lack the the drag issues and will likely be at least a little more stable in vertical flight.

It would probably be possible to make functional (especially on a small scale), but wouldn’t be very efficient. With four rotors to drive, you’re going to have significant weight, and on top of that you have the flat profile that will make it difficult to fly vertically. At the same time, the large spaces for the propellers mean it won’t be as sturdy or aerodynamic, and you’ve only got one propeller for forward thrust, so it won’t be able to go very fast. Very optimisticly, I expect that you’d be left with a vehicle that can barely take off or land, although might perform a bit better than something like a helicopter once in the air, but not competiting with existing VOTL designs.

I never had a problem with ratings over 50%. My writing seems to be especially prone to false positives, but I still didn’t receive higher than 20-30%. Unfortunately, at my school, anything over 0% was considered suspect, so I was still penalised even if it was clearly human-written with full APA sourcing.

Berry Bury Berry, A Game About Digging a Hole, and Scritchy Scratchy are the games that I know of that are closest to the gameplay loop I’m looking for. Basically, doing a simple satisfying task to buy upgrades to make the task more efficient. Also similar to a lot of old flash games.

Man, people here have a very different sense of “A long time” on YouTube. I was hesitating to include TimeGhost because I’ve only watched them for about eight years.

For stuff I’ve been watching for less long, the creators that come to mind are:

Timeghost - they do history documentaries, focusing on chronological “real time” content, such as their current series, the Korean War Week-by-Week

LEMMiNO - does deep-dives into supposed mysteries. His older stuff isn’t great, but shifted towards higher-quality long-form content about 8 years ago, and he does a good job on them.

AHOY - does documentaries on the history of games, and adjacent tech and culture. Not usually super deep, but well written, produced and animated.

Desync - makes stupid gaming videos, usually abusing bugs or just being silly. Doesn’t post often, but on the rare occasion he does, it’ll be well produced and funny.

For stuff more at the age I was thinking of originally, 10+ years:

John and Hank Green - cover a whole range of topics, although nowadays, it tends to be a mix of advocacy, science, philosophy, and just sillyness.

The Yogscast - Just a plain old gaming channel, albeit with unusually frequent and higher production quality videos. Nothing extraordinary, but consistently good and fun, despite the fact that they’ve been making videos for nearly 20 years.

Tom Scott - short video essays, explainers and documentaries on a variety of topics. Primarily, videos on different interesting places.

TomSka - The ASDF Movie guy. That said, just as good or better are his other skits, and now even his long-form content and videos essays.

asklemmy is explicitly not a support community, so that sort of question is usually locked and removed. Its more for open-ended discussion questions.

Its a very experimental spinoff that feels a bit more like tactical RPGs rather than the classic XCom formula. Its definitely not as good as the mainline games, but it still fun and offers something different.

It can be disabled, but IMO, choosing to leave its default so low is pretty hostile towards your most dedicated users. I know you don’t agree, but as seen by the pushback you received, many dedicated users in the fediverse’s already small userbase were against that design decision. I’m not trying to attack you, and I’d still rather use PieFed than Lemmy, but a user looking to set up shop somewhere will want to know about design philosophies like that, whether it affects them immediately, or is just something they may be concerned about in the future.

I’m using PieFed at the moment, although its more a matter of avoiding the Lemmy devs’ hate and support of violence.

PieFed is definitely developing faster, and has a host of features Lemmy doesn’t as a result. PieFed has following users, de-duplication of posts, flairs, among other stuff, which Lemmy still lacks. That said, the PieFed dev has some very weird opinions on social media design, so for every new feature, there’s an anti-feature. For example, I love the extra moderation tools, but the voting quota limits the ability for more dedicated users to contribute. Its mostly a dislike of internet culture and those who spend a lot of time online, so PieFed tends to discourage things like memes. All-in-all, I’d say PieFed is better, but if you care about the specific downsides, you can easily disagree.

About that, or less. Right click > inspect element and then select the text and type/paste whatever you want.

Alternatively, take a screenshot of the site, put a white block over whatever you want to replace, then insert the new text. Takes a tad longer, but requires less technical know-how.

I mean, if you’re worried about people spreading misinformation using out-of-context/editted screenshots, there isn’t really any reason to single out AI. Honestly, its far easier to just fake a screenshot directly, or use HTML editting than it is to coach an AI into saying what you want, than editting that. Not only that, as well as being easier, its also more effective, given that prompts can also be edittor, or AI as a “”“source”“” can be bypassed all-together, insted altering primary or otherwise verified sources directly.

Don’t get me wrong, AI is terrible for misinformation, but this post has nothing unique or specific to AI - you could literally replace all references to it with with Microsoft Word, or even a pencil and it would make zero difference.

I know Rimu has some really weird opinions about how a social media network should be designed, such as believing that the 90-9-1 rule should be prevented and being against memes, and tends to be overly pushy about implementing these “”“features”“”. That said, so far as I’m aware, its not so much problematic as just stupid design decisions.

I mean, while it is cannon, they mostly avoid it nowadays because there is so much weird stuff around it. While Pokemon are depicted as animals, many are suggested to be sentient and/or just as intelligent as humans, so things get very messy even within the universal canonical stuff, nonetheless stuff that they’ve swept under the rug.

As someone who supports psychotherapy practice: You’re massively underestimating how bad many therapists are. Even in regions where it is fairly strictly regulated, its not rare to find psychotherapists with no idea what they’re doing and/or no care for their clients, nonetheless without a more comprehensive understanding of neurodivergence or trauma. Far, far too many treat psychotherapy as a checklist of CBT activities, ignoring the needs of individual clients or the contexts of their concerns.

Again, psychotherapy is useful, proven to be effective, and generally good, but its not at all rare to have terrible therapists, or to have those that don’t “click” with you. Statememts like,

Whether you were game for that or not is a different question

just make you look like an elitist asshole, and discredits the field, particularly to those who have had similar experiences (which is not a small number of people).
