I recall an anecdote about a mathematician being asked to clarify precisely what he meant by “a close approximation to three”. After thinking for a moment, he replied “any real number other than three”.
This is “Serendipitious Green Meteor”, taken by Prasenjeet Yadav in October, 2015. The town is Mettupalayam, in southern India. The meteor was captured entirely by accident; he’d set his camera to take 15-second exposures 10 seconds apart over the course of a night, and only afterwards discovered the meteor in one of them. The picture won an honorable mention in National Geographic’s 2016 nature photographer of the year contest.
