  • I know it was discussed last year, but classifying The Bear as a comedy is a bit unfair. While the show certainly has its comedic moments, that shit is a stressful drama 90% of the time. I accept that awards are always bonkers, and comparing art and performances is not ever “fair.” It just seems insincere to put yourself in the same category as a show like What we do in the Shadows or Abbott Elementary when it seems to clearly belong in competition with shows like Shogun or Mr and Mrs Smith.

I don’t think you can compare the acting of Jeremy Allen White in a serious show about the life of a chef to that of Matt Berry who is pretending to be a horny vampire and occasional girls volleyball sponsor/humble neighborhood bartender from Tucson Arizonia. Jackie Daytona was robbed, and I will die on this hill.

How is Fallout a drama and not a comedy? How is this classification decided?

  • I never read the source material, so I can’t speak to the quality of adaptation. But I could not get past the casting and felt like the number of extremely famous faces detracted from the plot. The first movie I was somewhat able to be emersed in the world despite the main characters being the two most popular young stars of the year. But the second movie, I felt actors were cast in small parts they hardly got a chance to act in. Not that Christpher Walken can’t absolutely nail a small part. It just didn’t feel like some exotic Sci-fi world when every character was famous from 100 other movies.

  • They are still one of the most expensive stores. I believe they have multiple companies making their clothes, some of them are top notch. But as an internet shopper I have been bamboozled on a few occasions where the clothes were made of thin/lifeless fabric that did not look at all like they did on the model and after a few wears were showing signs of wearing thin or ripping.

The review community on their website is very active, though. A lot of people post their own photos of the garment on them and whether or not it feels like a waste of money. So, I just recommend browsing the reviews before making a pricey decision.

  • The Devil in the White City - would love to see the Chicago Worlds Fair brought to life in all it’s splendor, and to be directly contrasted with the horror that was HH Holmes murder castle. The book brought that history to life so vividly, and I feel like mini series with great casting would do incredibly well.

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle - mysteries and whodunnits are popular again (thank god) and this one has such an interesting premise. When I first read it I was convinced it would be a great video game. But a movie would also be a hit.

Something Wicked this way Comes - not sure if this has ever been adapted, but I’ve never seen it. The book is so atmospheric and has such a rich cast of characters. We haven’t had a movie that really celebrates the moodiness of autumn in a while.

  • Anthropologie - very popular brand with some classics and some very bohemian/trendy dresses. Quality warning - usually cheaply made, I recommend reading reviews if the dresses are worth it because they can be pricey.

Madewell and J Crew - simple, preppy clothes not the best quality but they used to have great sales

Reformation - also very popular brand with lots of classic dresses in multiple patterns so you can find a style you like.

Aritzia - lots of classic styles in neutral and colorful fabrics.

Pretty sure all of the above stores are tied to fast fashion and slave labor/poverty wages etc. If that’s something you are looking to avoid:

Avocado - smaller selection of classic clothes in simple colors that make it easy to pair pieces and put together outfits.

Elizabeth Suzann - well made staples, again less choice but will last longer and be a staple in your wardrobe.

Wolf and Badgar - not a brand but a site that aggregates and sells smaller designers clothing. Takes a bit more time to search through but they have some classics as well as crazy out there styles. You can sort by where the garment is made or other metrics like using ethically sourced materials and labor.
