  • It had very poor viewing/listening figures for quite a long time, and was generally seen as a bit of a joke, but they’ve been growing alarmingly in the last year - though still comparatively low.

If you see a report saying “GB News hits 1 million viewers”, note that this was corrected a few days later to “actually it was only 33,000”.

So currently, it’s generally not trusted or respected, and is kind of seen as a joke, but like UKIP, Brexit, Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, Donald Trump as US President etc, it’s a dangerous joke that we should be taking more seriously.

  • I’m not sure if it counts as a holiday in the traditional sense, but the plan is that me and the missus are going to both go away on one of those “intensive driving” courses - so I guess it’ll be something like a Premiere Inn in Scunthorpe or whatever. We’ll still be away together though, and hopefully one of us will have learnt to drive (or at least be halfway there) by the end of the “holiday” :)

  • I got detention off of a teacher for saying “Hitler the Shitler” or “Hitler is a Shitler” or something suchlike during a lesson, even though several other kids had already said it and didn’t get in trouble.

Technically, the detention was for swearing, though I chose to interpret it as “Miss Teacher loves Hitler and he is her boyfriend”.

I instigated a petty campaign of cartoons, blackboard messages, textbook graffiti and just general rumours that this poor teacher was genuinely a Hitler-loving-Nazi, and had a Hitler shrine in her house. As I was generally honest, well behaved etc, it was readily believed and spread quickly.

As she was relatively unpopular as a teacher, many of the other students joined in, goosestepping past her in the corridor, nazi saluting behind her back etc.

After a few weeks, upon entering the classroom to find a full blackboard chalk cartoon of her and Hitler getting married, she started crying and shouted at us and we all felt awful.

I apologised to her after the lesson, and she actually apologised for unfairly singling me out for punishment “to set an example” and oddly, we actually got on pretty well after that, and the Hitler jokes faded out naturally.

  • There was a tiny article about a project I was involved with. All fine so far, but they wanted a photo of me and a friend for the article.

They sent the photographer to take a handful of crappy posed photos of us, and then they seemingly used the worst one possible, with half-closed eyes or whatever, where my friend looked like he was coming down from a week-long drugs binge, and I looked like I was about to stab the photographer.

They used it again a few years later.
