  • Petroleum may be both an accelerator and a filter. Filter in the form of plastic, like you’re saying, but maybe it’s weird that crude oil even exists in the first place. An era where plants die, but don’t decompose may be a rarity in itself. Then the geologic activity that buried that dead plant matter, but not too deeply for us to get to, seems like it could also be a rarity. So then we get this energy source that’s pretty energy dense and allows massive technical acceleration, but then poisons us and salts the earth behind us. Look how shortly we went from the first fixed wing flight to rocketing to the moon, amazing how short that time was. Hydrocarbons, allowing us to touch the greatness we could achieve, before smacking us back down.

  • The best thing to come from Superman is Lex Luther. No villain can go toe to toe with Supes, except maybe Doomsday, but does he really count as a villain? Mindless kill machine. Anyway, Lex has to beat Superman who can punch him into mist, or roast him by looking at him too hard, or literally blow him to the moon. How do you write a villain to counter that? By making them cunning and lovable to the public so that if Superman does any of those things, the public turns against him. Superman’s weakness isn’t only kryptonite, he craves social acceptance, if he didn’t he would just punch his way into being in charge and dare anyone to stop him. Lex gets how razor thin that edge is and takes full advantage.

  • Good God, your utility company isn’t even using lube when they fuck you with a rusty shovel. Without solar, my time off use plan would make it $0.08/kWh. With solar I don’t even bother figuring out what my cost per mile is because it’s irrelevant till I need a fast charger. I don’t even pay $0.50/kWh at a fast charger usually. I’d be going with a full off-grid solar battery system if I were you. Charging my neighbors cars for free before selling a joule back to those assholes

Gopuff is the company. They don’t deliver take out like grub hub and door dash. They are like a delivery for things you’d run to the convenience store for. Commonly I’ll deliver a 12 pack of coke, some chips, and a bag of ice; or something similar. Often I’m delivering some alcohol as well, many times to party’s or other group things. I think that’s great, let the good times roll but keep the drinkers off the road.

Don’t do Dash, but deliver for another app that tracks like everything. If it puts the GPS point in the wrong spot, that’s where I deliver because there’s very little tolerance. Actual address 4 houses down? Too bad, the app will only let me deliver it here. Apartment complex is huge and you’re too far from this entrance? I’ll get it as close as I can. But can’t get it to your door.

I always text an explanation and offer to either drop where I’m allowed or return the order. But most people ordering off this app are drunk or high when I’m delivering, they would rather walk to me.

  • The NHSTA requires a backup cam, which requires a screen. Since the screen is there they might as well make it something they can upcharge for.

I do wish they’d keep it small, nothing more than a fancy stereo. But instead it’s cheaper to bake more and more features into it instead of dedicated knobs and buttons. And it becomes a vector for subscriptions.

All of this is to say that no one asked for it, but it makes more business sense when you know that the screen is required for the backup camera.
