Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If the US medical system is hypothetically killing off all the poor people, doesn't that mean that fewer doctors will be required as well?
11·15 days agoYeah, because if the poor die off, doctors no longer have people lower than they are. They’re the next on the chopping block. There’s no need for as many of them as there are.
If you’re not the best of the best, you’re dying out.
The only essential workers are tradespeople. And a massive amount of them will be killed off as well. Have you seen how many of them are going into those fields?
Planned obsolescence won’t help keep jobs, because the college-educated rich are only going to pay for the best.

1·15 days agoI’m hearing this scenario from everyone. I’m looking to clear up a few details.
And, don’t companies like Walmart prove that it is more profitable to take smaller gains, over time, than large profits?

1·15 days agoAnd when a massive number of people die at once?
When the lowest in society die, there will be a new lower class to take its place – closer to the doctors themselves.

Technology@lemmy.world•An AI couldn’t beat humans at StarCraft, so it decided to cheatEnglish
112·19 days agoFirst of all, AI runs on the Theory of Evolution. It evolves processes to accomplish a desired outcome.
It didn’t cheat. It did what it was supposed to do: win.
We set up a situation where it could cheat, told it to win, then got angry with it, because we didn’t restrain it properly.

2·24 days agoThat would be the “factions” the founding fathers were talking about. Someone from some house/cabal butts heads with someone from another house/cabal, and all out war breaks out.
A version of Democrat and Republican will always exist. They’d hoped that an election would allow the public to select logical faction couplings.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•During online debate have you ever convinced the other party of your point of view?
1·1 month agoYou’re right about knowing your audience. That’s when I do my best work.
You literally have to know what thought is going to pop into their heads before they do. Then, you kind of steer the conversation like a tour guide in a car. Your goal isn’t to be right, but to give them the best experience. And, the best experience is having a reason to live in a world without their fantasy. For most people, fantasy is the only thing they have left – especially in this world. And crushing that without giving them something equally sustainable (for their mental state) makes one an asshole. It isn’t that you can’t convince a lot of people. It’s that you have to crush them to do it sometimes.
Great point on knowing when to stop as well.

5·1 month agoI forced Ben Shapiro to change his views on gender with well-thought-out counterpoints.
He was literally saying sex and gender were the same. After a spelled out comment on why they weren’t, he changed his tune on the next show.
The left.
And I hate to say that.

But you have a choice for the doctor/ER you use.
