  • hmm, that’s odd, but i think i’ve seen it happen before.

maybe i should switch instances lol. if rules are applied unequally, i’d kind of want to find a different instance, but this one has been the one with the least weird rules so far so i do want to stay if possible.

i’m also scared of getting banned from the platform for “ban evasion” cus some dumbfuck banned me from a random piefed community i’ve never even interacted with and have no interest in interacting with, and have no idea why i got banned. i’ve never broken any rules anywhere, i’m well aware of the rules of the spaces i’m in.

  • it’s hard to comment on that specific case without seeing the comments since you got banned by an admin for breaking the instance rules

kind of sounds like what happened to me on lemmygrad though. i made almost the exact same argument and got dogpiled and someone told me i should be boiled alive. didn’t get banned though, maybe because i didn’t call anyone a sociopath, but i’m never engaging with that instance ever again. some of the people seem cool but i think as a space it’s extremely toxic for people that have different views, even if they’re marxists like me.

i don’t think that alone would get you crucified on .ml, but it might be because of how you worded it.

also, the sub you got banned from is “memes”, which for whatever reason attracts people with some interesting views. i’ve blocked some active posters from there just for the sake of my sanity. there’s much more pleasant sublemmies on here like “degoogle yourself”, “privacy”, “linux”, “asklemmy”, “technology”, etc.

  • i haven’t been here for three years but i can give my 2 cents on it.

people on lemmy.world and adjacent instances see something they disagree with. they check the instance. oh, it’s .ml so this must be an “evil red fascist tankie”. starts acting in bad faith which makes the .ml user understandably mad. other people see the .ml user acting angry and generalize the whole instance by those interactions and then this cycle repeats when they encounter a person with the “wrong opinions”. rinse and repeat. this kind of makes .ml users not trust people on another instances because they’re prejudiced against for their instance, and have a lot less patience than they would ideally have, contributing to the problem.

it’s unfortunate, i have a hard time disagreeing with anyone outside of this instance cus i’ll just get dogpiled because of my instance. it wouldn’t happen in hexbear or lemmygrad but disagreeing with the consensus tends to get you dogpiled there for other reasons. i don’t wanna switch my instance though cus i felt like i would concede to the instance shamers and bullies.

if anything, i’d probably make a completely new account to not engage with anything controversial on cus the dogpiling on this platform feels absolutely shit and it’s everywhere. i’d still probably still stay on this instance because the rules are very simple and straight to the point, unlike the situation on a lot of other instances.

  • a ban from over 2 years ago on an account with 5.56k comments, hasn’t been banned since.

i wouldn’t trust it, could be a rogue mod, considering there’s no deleted comments of the sort despite a “long moderation history” and they just nuked them from multiple subs at once

i’m very suspicious of these mod logs cus very shortly after i joined this website, i got randomly banned from a random piefed community i’ve never visited, for being a “tankie bootlicker”. no idea why that happened, cus obviously there’s no deleted comments or anything cus i’ve never interacted with that community lol
