Reading books. Not audiobooks. Not podcasts. Books.
Reading books. Not audiobooks. Not podcasts. Books.
My parents live with me.
Okay, well, one of them now. They divorced under our roof during covid while my wife was pregnant with our first child. Ah, fun times!
At some point they venture off to hobbies and try to pat themselves on the back with a bit of philanthropy.
Top 150 ranked in world on Company of Heroes 1v1 a long time ago lol. Got to play against some of the #1’s - one of them left to join the South Korean military I heard. Got stomped but was fun.
I was pretty damn good at C&C Generals: Zero Hour back in the day. Damn I wish they remastered that game.
Was ranked on global leaderboards in Dota for a brief moment, too. Top 1%, but never close to the 0.1%.
My favorite moment in gaming was playing a sniper in Red Orchestra in a large 64 player game. Huge map. All game I’m sniping people left and right. Not dying once. Meanwhile throughout the game, like 30 minutes, the enemy sniper is equally decimating my team’s ranks. I was hunting for him the entire game to no avail. Then, while prone I crest this ridgeline to scout a valley below and as I pan my scope to look all the way down toward the other side of my ridgeline, I see the other sniper lock with me at Exactly. The Same. Time.
We both fire.
And since Red Orchestra actually tries to simulate ballistics, we both hit each other and die.
Just the Donner Triple. So far I’m really happy with it! I’m not doing anything super fancy, just wanting to lay down rhythms to practice.
The best ways I’ve found:
Going for a run with music Doing VR Boxing Taking a nice long shower.
Playing dota is my escapism habit that is VERY counterproductive for destressing… I’m trying to start making music again as a substitution.
I finally got a looper guitar pedal I’ve been wanting and after a couple 12 hour shifts finally got to mess around with it this evening!
Upvoted for a hot take!
I never watched the old stuff. I enjoyed the campy and quirky scifi romp that peaked with the 10/11 doctors, but there are certainly long stretches of pretty dull episodes, I admit. There are many episodes that I just love and tried to make note of through my last watch through.
It doesn’t take itself too seriously and I like that. It’s also like gateway scifi for people not normally too into the genre.
That’s awesome! My old man now retired is pipe/steam-fitter and welder; he always loved hydraulics though. Designed and built his own little hydraulic setup for his New Holland back in the day.
I got my education in software engineering but have really enjoyed working a fairly unique logistical role in healthcare. I’m not particularly people-facing; I WFH; I work part-time; I get good benefits. The work-life balance has been just too good when it comes to raising kids.
Vegetarian not vegan, but I wouldn’t really have an issue if ethical. Nutrition is another matter to consider.
Are they deleting their old posts?
They also seem to be full of shit, considering in one breath they say they’ve never been with a woman but also just recently commented they isolated and drank after a breakup in another thread.
Very weird.
Being a parent is like one part being a therapist, one part being the fence to the boundaries of exploration, and one part being The Doctor or some superhero in your child’s eyes capable of making magic and excitement happen. Fucking incredible, honestly.
My wife’s father is still peddling that toxic masculinity bullshit on his grandson, saying…to our 1-year-old… To toughen it up.
My wife about lost it on him. Now that was to our son but for our daughter it would be no different and it’s a reflection of her childhood.
Being emotionally unattached, uncomfortable with crying, and being incapable saying sorry and admitting you’re wrong are simply massive. Kids are kids but they have a keen sense of justice and parents should empower them to stand up for themselves and be proud of them for exposing you as a hypocrite… Not beat them with a belt…
And for goodness sake, play with your kid. She wants to play dolls? Dress you up? Paint your nails? Tea time? By god you do it! If she wants to play with army men (they make army gals, too), go for it!
Imagine being them, subbed to a “Reddit” community on Lemmy, complaining about people who use reddit…
They’re not exactly deep thinkers.
Yeah that’s some petty bullshit.
Side note but I really appreciate the mod log feature.
Hexbear falls under this umbrella, right?
There’s something to be said for browsing TV. Having favorites channels and recalling between two different shows between commercials. Sucks if commercials were synced.
Like, some films I wouldn’t put on voluntarily but I’d watch if I caught it on you know? Also found a lot of new stuff I wouldn’t have otherwise seen.
