Amusingly we do have backup infrastructure on site. 30tb pawb nas, 80tb nas for backups, and lto tape backups periodically. my problem is getting it all set up. i’ve been battling depression and trying to catch up on housework.
the issue here was doing a partial migration and allowing a couple months to pass before trying to finish, by which point I had forgotten pawb was moved.
we plan on pawb to take a lot more storage as time goes on. we are at about 1.5tb plus ~450gb database size right now.
edit: to make some sense of this: the 1.5tb includes cached media from other instances. our users don’t use a lot of storage yet.
That sounds like serious insecurity.

As an instance admin, I’d ban you for this kind of behavior if I saw it in a report. You need to learn to read the room and not intentionally be inflammatory in every post.

Open bitterness and a need to put others down to feel better about yourself.
Do better, Mickey7.

The fine print often points to the cherry picked sponsored study. You don’t have to make up evil, it already exists.
It’s a relevant point if you have seen a cat dead on a roof before. You acting like a cunt is not.

I prefer to leave it plugged in when the lithium battery inevitably dies, since replacement is annoying and difficult.
I leave my trackpad plugged in for the same reason. I need my mouse to not be another device that needs babysitting.

As an owner of a few apple magic mice and two of the giant trackpads, fuck everything about placing the charging port on the UNDERSIDE OF THE MOUSE. apple, there is a perfectly good location for the port. Front towards pc. Period. Put a usb-c cable there and let me use it while charging.
I actually prefer the older ones that run on AAs for my print room mac.
All that being said, razer naga pro for gaming. Loads of buttons, lots of macros.

okay… so I’ll try and get the usual complaints out of the way by saying I’m aware i’m likely talking about a >6 month processing time here, and i’m not saving any money. This is mostly for my amusement.
I’m looking to see if I can find a good one-size-fits-all conservative AV1 encoder+settings for my content, something that won’t cause issues on content with fast motion that I can try to apply to everything in my library over time. I plan to use CPU encoding, and I plan to deploy this as a kubernetes service, with pods on most of my hardware.
basically I was curious what your best starting point would be for encoder and settings, since I’m a novice in video. (only played with handbrake so far). This is really just an excuse to play with kubernetes.
so long as my PLEX server can decode AV1 with quicksync i’m not too worried about hardware encoding. It can take months to encode and that wouldn’t really bother me that much. I have an i5-13600k in my NAS with the iGPU shared to my plex container, so that SHOULD suffice.
PS: I promise I won’t run any of this pod on the server handling pawb.social ~<3

I find they have different use cases. Masto is really good for more immediate conversion, especially with the really responsive home feed.
Not my thing (Reddit refugee turned lemmy host here), but it definitely has its place!

I wish the cozy community was the biggest reason for my involvement, but honestly the feeling of having hundreds of people using the server hardware I tinker with is really exciting!
I handle the local hardware and crashdoom handles the software. Honestly he does the hard part IMO.
i’m on the spectrum and can’t handle political conversations if the other person is being confrontational. this doesn’t/shouldn’t make me a right winger, but would make you assume as much about me.
