I think you have this wrong. You can prevent those awkward situations, fumbling around in the dark bedroom, digging through your pants for the condom that you always keep, then fishing around on the floor under the bed because it fell out of your pocket and tumbled under the bed if you just wear one all the time because you just never know.

I think of it like the emergency brake in my car. In an actual emergency, you’re not going to have enough time to yank it (the brake, you pervert! We’ve moved on!), so just always drive with the emergency brake engaged. It’s the safest way.

As long as we’re sharing time saving tips and talking cars, it saves a lot of time to just leave your left turn signal on. I mean, how often do you turn left or change lanes? You’ll save a LOT of time and all the other drivers will thank you with honks. I sure get a lot of honks driving under the minimum highway speed in the left lane with my left turn signal on and emergency brake engaged while wearing a condom for safety! They all wave at me with one finger, which must be a more efficient way of saluting because it uses so many less fingers!

I’m with you. Many of “them” want to get violent and are looking for a reason to do so. By throwing a punch, it provides justification for their violent actions. So many folks here indicate that you won’t change somebody unless you fight them, but I’ve read and heard plenty of evidence to the contrary. I used to struggle to get to sleep and hated those who could do it anywhere. They’d say, “just clear your mind”, which wasn’t helpful. It could be other things, but I figured out that my mind was always busy, sometimes from stress, sometimes from excitement. For me, it’s extreme focus. Often, I’ll put my mind to work on a complicated problem I’m having at work or home. If I have nothing, my go to is to see how far I can get calculating the binary digits (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64…) or the Fibonacci sequence in my head. I don’t get very far and I’m out.

I came here to say the thing that you said in better words. I’m on a diet for health reasons that closely resembles the vegan diet, so to keep it simple, I’ll say to people that I’m vegan. Most wait staff don’t care if I ask if a menu item can be made vegan, but family or people I’m dining with will either send hate vibes or go into a long thing about some distant vegan relative who died from malnutrition.

I think you’re.right about tradition. I have a set of recipes from 3 generations ago. It’s been converted over the generations from a list of ingredients to “a fistful of flour” to “a juice glass of broth” to “1/3 cup of butter” as it was passed to me. Maybe my contribution will be to convert it to weight and pass it to my kids for them to finally convert it to metric weights.

This is a great thing. I didnt know that Walmart was doing it, I have only heard of local grocers in Europe doing this.

I read a paper a few years ago that basically said that food insecurity is not a problem with production, but is instead a problem with distribution. The USA throws away enough food to feed another good sized country. I don’t know the exact nature of the distribution problem and whether it’s a problem of resources or something else, like s political problem.
