  • But honestly, would you rather have a fascist dictator and be able to feed and shelter yourself, or have no food and in a violent domestic war? Just something to consider. When people get hungry that’s when action happens as has been historically shown, but who knows what comes after that.

It’d be great if they were toppled and some form of competent leadership and “normalcy” (when was the last normal period that we’d like to return to even?), but with violence comes further instability, death, imprisonment, etc. Ideally we can do everything non-violently within the system, but that hasn’t really worked so… I don’t know…

  • The mods just do great work in some subs, but completely destroy others. I got banned overall for posting facts in conservative subs…

But I don’t think lemmy fixes that since it has the same mod/channel structure. The nice thing is that advertisers and nefarious actors haven’t started posting as “fellow kids” yet, like they have on Reddit for many years.

  • Thanks for sharing, I didn’t know about him. For anyone else reading this look up the Coal Wars and the Homestead Strike.

Labor has always had to kill, die, and fight against Capital for the rights we have today. They don’t really teach these things in school (I think I learned about the Pinkertons in AP US History) because it would give Labor too much cultural power, but it’s crucial for US citizens (and anyone really) to understand what it has taken to get to where we are.

  • There are a million ways you can research because you have the internet.

Off the top of my head: organize locally (and online, though online is more risky for infiltration), attend protests, fund groups in resistance lawsuits (ACLU, NRDC for climate stuff, etc.), join mutual aid networks, constantly call your local congressperson and attend town halls. Educate yourself and share truth when confronted with mis/disinformation in your own real life, get others you know to involved and help them understand the predicament we’re in, rather than what they see on Fox or Newsmax or Tiktok.

Then there are the more extreme things that I wouldn’t condone such as providing the implicit threat of violence to back up whatever the peaceful protests are advocating. The Far Right in America has done that part very well in the past 15 years.
