Hey everyone,

After sinking countless hours into various RPGs, I have to say it: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt completely obliterates anything the Elder Scrolls series has ever done. Here’s why:

The Witcher 3:

  • Storytelling: Geralt’s journey is a masterclass in narrative. The Elder Scrolls games? Bland, generic plots with zero emotional impact.
  • Character Depth: Every character in The Witcher 3 feels real and complex. In Elder Scrolls, characters are nothing but quest dispensers.
  • Choices Matter: In The Witcher 3, your decisions have real consequences. Elder Scrolls? Good luck finding a choice that matters outside of picking your character’s race.
  • Voice Acting: Geralt’s voice acting is iconic, while Elder Scrolls NPCs sound like they’re reading from a script for the first time.
  • World Design: The Continent feels alive and meticulously crafted. Tamriel, on the other hand, is just a lifeless sandbox filled with repetitive dungeons.

I know some people love the freedom and modding in Elder Scrolls, but let’s be real: mods shouldn’t be necessary to make a game enjoyable. Without mods, Skyrim is a buggy, outdated mess with clunky combat and boring quests.

So, what’s the appeal? Why settle for a shallow experience when you can have an epic, emotionally engaging adventure in The Witcher 3? Let’s hear it!

I think comparing Bethesda and Witcher is wrong yeah, they are both ‘rpgs’ but that is an almost meaningless term these days.

Bethesda has been down hill since Morrowind, (it’s a big hill, doesn’t matter if you liked Oblivion or Skyrim) and that is such a different kind of game to Witcher.

Compare Witcher 3 to Red Dead 2 though. I think that would be interesting. I think they might even be more alike than they are different.

You’ve got to be kidding me. The Witcher 3 is great, but calling The Elder Scrolls a “lifeless sandbox” is just ignorant. Skyrim alone has more depth and freedom than any game out there. You want a character that matters? Try creating your own instead of crying like a Lil piss baby over it

Freedom? You mean the freedom to get lost in an empty, buggy world? At least The Witcher 3 has a plot that’s worth following and characters that don’t look like they’re made out of clay. Enjoy your generic fantasy land while I’m busy saving Ciri and actually giving a damn.

Right, because chasing after a whiny kid for 50 hours is SO compelling. Meanwhile, I’m becoming the Archmage of Winterhold, head of the Dark Brotherhood, and oh yeah, did I mention DRAGONBORN? What’s Geralt got? Some lousy potions and two swords? Yawn.

Yeah, and those two swords slice through more interesting enemies in one hour than Skyrim manages in the entire game. Let’s not forget, your precious dragons are dumb as rocks. I’d take a well-crafted griffin fight over that any day.

At least in Skyrim, I’m not forced to play as an emotionally stunted brick. Geralt’s about as dynamic as a slab of granite. “Hmm, should I grunt here or over there?” Meanwhile, my Dragonborn can shout people off cliffs. Enjoy your medieval soap opera.

Better a medieval soap opera than an aimless hiking simulator. Have fun picking up every piece of junk you find in Tamriel. I’ll be over here, actually making choices that matter and dealing with grown-up themes, not just hoarding cheese wheels.

Oh, come on! At least in Skyrim, I can play how I want. Want to be a stealthy assassin or a powerful mage? Done. In The Witcher 3, you’re just following a pre-written script. Uh, hello? Freedom dude seriously. What Else do you not get?

Freedom to do what? Break the game with mods because it’s so glitchy? I’d rather have a polished, coherent experience than a broken sandbox any day. Plus, Geralt’s story is legendary. Your Dragonborn? Just another silent protagonist with no personality.

Witcher 3 was alright. I got a little bit further than the creepy demon baby and just didn’t play much after that. Way too repetitive, and too much exposition.

In Oblivion and Skyrim I did EVERYTHING over the course of multiple playthroughs.

Really, it comes down to preferences, of course, but ES wins for me hands down.

I might be breaking the rules here, are we supposed to be extra aggressive in good fun?

You’re totally fine dude. Yes you are. Like look, people are fucking passionate and have passionate video Game preferences. That’s just fact and obvious obviously. Double untundra.

Video Game discussions are meant to be heated. I’d question your passion for it if you weren’t. Like do you even really care ? Or are you just being polite for the crowd you know what I mean ?

Do I even care? DO I EVEN FUCKING CARE?!

You don’t spend hundreds of hours in Tamriel to NOT CARE!

The only thing Witcher has that ES doesn’t, is boobs. That might be a selling point for horny teenagers, but I’m interested in a fantasy RPG, not a dating sim with monsters and fucking Gwent!

Witcher 3 was great in spite of its boring main story, saved by it’s really great side quests.

At least Skyrim (only one I played), was fantastic at storytelling. All an opinion at the end of the day.

What’s the point in asking for other people’s thoughts if this is how you respond? Did you just want to tell everyone how great you think the game is?

Edit: That’s my bad. Did not realize this sub is called video game arguments, and was created recently by you.

Hurr durr DAE like The Witcher 3? DAE think Skyrim is overrated?

Both games get blown out the water in every metric you mentioned by Dishonored.

I really liked Witcher 3 but unfortunately for whatever reason the camera made me really motion sick. I really needed a way to back the camera off him a bit. I fiddled with the settings at the time to no avail. Maybe they’ve improved it since it first came out but man, I couldn’t play it at all. Big bummer. Maybe I should watch a playthrough of it.

And if I want to play a different character? That’s then point of an open world game, making your own character.
