This is your somewhat regularly scheduled Stop Killing Games update.
Stop Killing Games is an European Citizens Initiative aiming to keep games playable even after their developers and publishers have stopped supporting it.
Germany has hit the threshold sometime yesterday evening. France has also started to catch up. They are still below 50% but there growth over the last couple of days has been the biggest. Netherlands and Denmark are still in the low 90s.
The milestone comes on the eve of this years Gamescom in Cologne, Germany which is set to kick off today. SKG is not going to have an official presence there. (I’ve checked with the organisers) But if you are attending and want to help spread the word I’m happy to share official marketing material, either in the form of flyers or the files for flyers, so you can print your own. They come in both German and English. If you want some, send me a DM.

FYI, there’s also the Tax the rich initiative available, which is ending in October this year.
Personally i’m a bit sad that video games get more traction than fixing wealth inequalities.
I guess one seems more achievable.

I’m Italian and I’m also disappointed in my country, but on the other hand we have an old population and our threshold is so high.
The US so it’s basically impossible for any kind of change

- This is about citizenship not about residence. So if you have European citizenship (even dual citizenship) you can sign from outside the EU without a VPN necessary
- All signatures are checked by the EU after the fact. So if you aren’t eligible then signing won’t help. Your signature is going to get invalidated
Ah thanks, I thought it’s like change.org or something that verify email and IP address only. Again, not an EU citizen so I don’t know any of this stuff.

This is not some informal petitioning website. This is an official EU commission citizen petition. After the goal is reached the commission will look into it and take legislative steps if they see the need or address it in a way they see fit. Then it goes through the normal eu institutions. I believe this is a lot more powerful than random change.org petitions.
Because gaming like any other industry needs regulation and politics instead of educating people to think and make conscious decisions. I just can’t wait for governments start taking care of gaming. I can’t say that the goal isn’t noble but it will result with taxes and billion dollars funds that will double the prices of games and regulate market so only corporate will be able to afford to publish and make games. Good Luck. I’m to old for this shit.

You look like a person who knows exactly how EU legislation works, how much we need lawyers and gaming industry experts from biggest gaming companies telling us how gaming should look like because law won’t write by itself.
Funny how biggest problem in gaming is people spending money on product that stopped working after 10 years from release.

I see you’re straight to the point, they will put big banner on box version of the game next to the pegi stamp that says it can harm you if you buy it - just like on alcohol and tobacco to prevent you from unconsciously using this bad game. I’m like you, I also like it when the owners of a video game IP have a right to sue preservators of games they’ve shut down and deleted, instead of having to let people keep it running.
I live that long that I know that anybody can sue anyone for anything if they have enough time and / or money. It’s just a matter of incorporating company in a country of imaginary victim and convincing court that you have rights to do something. Nothing new, that’s how globalisation works.
To make an online game, you have to write server software. So just give it to people! Its not that hard.
