I assumed this was not unlike a Nathalie Portman or Emma Watson situation where we were all supposed to be amazed that limitless money & opportunity had nothing to do with academic achievement.
Most students in the US/Canada/Asia face very difficult choices - should they invest years & years & years pursuing a very unsure career path that isn’t particularly remunerative? Is it time to stop after the master’s…?
So it’s always enraging to see “celebrity is actually a genius!” when they are able to fulfill the dreams you had for yourself because time/money is simply not an issue for them.
If I remember correctly, he was a PhD candidate before the offspring took off. Like the music was just a hobby then everybody suddenly liked it.
Later on, sure I’ll give you unlimited money, but I gotta give him credit for the pursuits of finishing the doctorate and getting a pilots license.
That’s a far cry better than many musicians I’ve watched over the years.

Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden has been a pilot for decades. He still flies to this day afaik.
