  • I like this. It reminds me of a similar app I used to use a long time ago called BuyCott. But their app needs a bit more work first. When I tried to scan a pack of frozen veggies the app ceashed, and when I try to submit products their app doesn’t know about to them, it just keeps saying error submitting photos and clears all the photos and descriptions I gave them. Plus their android app uses their own camera implementation, which because of differences in camera architecture, always results in much worse photos. I’d prefer they opened my actual camera and let me take a photo through that, because then things would be readable

  • I signed up for an Optus Sim when I was 12, so I didn’t have any ID or anything like that, but there was a period of time where they allowed you to use a PayPal account as proof of ID. I was able to bullshit my way through the PayPal (and Optus) sign ups and they just never questioned it. So thankfully they didn’t leak my ID. They did have my actual name and address though (and phone number and email I guess), but that’d not too bad compared to how bad it would’ve been if they’d leaked my license or something

I’d also stopped using that number and had moved so it’s only my email and name I care about being released. But I already get a ton of spam to that email anyways so it doesn’t matter that much.

  • I’d support an option to collapse them automatically (and would probably use it), but I disagree that they’re a bad idea. I use them a lot and really like it.

If this was implemented, I think it should render similar to how spoilers do on web Lemmy, but with the title being prefixed with [photo] and the title itself being the alt text if set. Something like this:

[Photo] An image of a pot plant

Spoilers aren’t actually implemented in BfL yet, but that’d look like this:

  • Fellow lemmings who can’t read lemmy.world posts (in a timely fashion anyway) of the world UNITE!

If you’re down for a bit of tinkering and paying for an additional VPS based in Finland, someone in the thread dhmo linked to wrote some software that can be deployed on a VPS nearer to where Lemmy world’s servers are and will send the jobs in batches to your server which will massively help. It seems to be quite a technical and involved process, but if you were able to figure out how to get Lemmy set up, I’m sure you could figure this out too. Otherwise apparently the next major Lemmy upgrade will introduce parallel processing and sending, so that should resolve the problem
