  • I’m only a moderator, that’s not a decision I’d be taking alone.

    Problem is that a community as broad as a gaming one is bound to be subscribed my many user on many instances. Switching it to another one will only move the problem elsewhere, not fix it.

    Still, if that’s a problem, we could research other courses of actions, like dividing LW in multiple sub-instances for broad topics. The idea would be to get all gaming related community on “games.lemmy.world”, and getting most games related communities to switch there, so external instances can subscribe to that specific instance without receiving all the other updates from other communities. That would also make it a lot easier to scale the servers to the right size for the right use.

    But once again that’s not my decision to take.

  • And I’d add to that that if our thermal dissipation is overwhelmed, our internal heat build up. To do that heat dissipation, we need to have an environment that suck out more heat out of us than what we produce. If the environment is too hot, the heat build up and as Deadrek says, our internal inner workings beak down.

    That why we sweat. Water suck out a lot more heat than air, because it wants to saturate the ambiante air, and to do that it suck up our body heat to become steam. Rince and repeat (literally).

    But once the air is to humid, it gets more and more difficult for our sweat to evaporate, which makes it ineffective. That why we can kinda survive in a 90°C + sauna (albeit not for long, but for a different reason), but not in a 37°C (98°F) 100% humidity place like some tropical rainforest. At least, not without specialized acclimatation and survival techniques.

  • toss molotov cocktails at trucks with trump stickers all over them does not mean i am encouraging violence

    That’s by definition violence.

    if we can’t talk about illegal activities, then what the fuck are we talking about?

    Well, you know, legal stuff.

    legal =/= morally correct

    Same goes for illegal stuff.

    Fire do not know the difference between objects and people. If someone throw, like you suggest, a molotov at a car without properly checking if some is inside, what do you thing will happen? Will the fire miraculously go around them and only burn down the car?

    And even if no one is inside, what do you think will happen to someone who lost what may be his livelihood? He will become the very fuel that feed this fascist.

    All you are doing is giving them more fuel to convince the gullible of their fascist ideas.

  • Problem is, with an instance as huge as LW, it has some moderation obligations in many countries that may have opened them to be litigated for multiple millions €, considering its size. It is more a question of survival, not because of some power-hungry admin.

    I can understand your point of view, but the TOS is clear about piracy and piracy discutions (see : https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/#41-piracy), and thus they are required to remove those communities if they break those terms (they are legally binding).

    Anyone who doesn’t want to comply with those TOS can, as you pointed out, move to another instance. It is one of the beauty of the Fediverse. In this case, the one who will be responsible in the case of a litigation is lemmy.ca, and not lemmy.world anymore.
