I worked at startups and I’m not going to deny that I was absolutely horking my company as a solution for years on Reddit. Especially with niche products.
This was from 2014-2018, and then I left startups and worked in corps.
When Google has plans to slurp reddit comments, I bet I could gamify reddit even more.
Knowing Glassdoor, they probably took it down. They’re like Yelp now where they hassle companies for money to hide reviews.
It’s one of the dumbest things about American culture.
We have such unique choices about what is acceptable and what isn’t in our entertainment.
Curse words? Bad.
Violence? Okay.
Nipple? Bad.
Guns? Okay.
It’s the same way neurotypicals learn the preferences of a neurodivergent person.
Many times we make mistakes. And many times we have to be told flat out or pick up cues.
I constantly ask my wife… “Bruh are you sure?”
Https://Rockpapershotgun.com is one of the few sites I still visit on a frequent basis. I don’t care about half of their reviews. Their writing and personality is just entertaining and the commenters are fun.
As a developer, I love https://js13kgames.com/. These masters of JS make games that are under 13k, smaller than font file!
This blog has been my late night addiction. https://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/ reviews old PC RPG games like Wizardry and Eye of the Beholder. Theyve been doing it for more than a decade.
20 years ago, they were out in full force because of Bush & 9/11.
Without a Fairness Doctrine that requires news channels to actually, you know, deliver facts… We’re kinda fucked.
But fortunately, you can just trust that if the person you’re talking to watches Fox News, assume they’re a fucking moron.
When I was a kid, I used to pick up newspapers and magazines that were pretty tabloidy, like “Bigfoot stopped moon landing because it will tip the flat earth”. Shit that was so stupid but it was fun for me.
I’m so furious that my enjoyment of really obviously stupid news is now moonlit on channels like Fox News.
Schools putting out litter boxes for school kids? And you believe it? What the fuck.
This is a really great topic! I’ve been puzzling over ideas for years but havent committed for a walk based games.
I’m in the same boat. I get bored very easily and want more minor gamification in walking.
Right now, it’s just me walking while listening to audio books, and marking those books down.
just reads from the google analytics on your walking distance
Unless I’m confused - I think you mean Google Maps, as Analytics is to see user behavior on apps/websites!
Oh nice! It’s on Google Play as well and made by the Zombie run folks
Op pointed that out already in the description. Any other recommendations you can add?
I had a boomer who was the property manager. Nice guy, except boomer. Because a few times, he’d pull me aside and ask very directly if things like OPs post is true.
And you can’t even joke or laugh about it. He was so brain infected by Fox News paranoia.
Anyways keep memeing folks.
How likely are you to recommend Lemmy to a friend or colleague? Give a score from 1 to 10.
I work at a web hosting company and we’d get requests from “da guberment”. They were usually warrants and asking us to transfer data.
Never ever did they go, “Keep that racist white power pushing for violence website up and available to the public”. Without legal action, a govt can’t demand a private company what to do.
Not saying they haven’t tried, but we have the lawyers give us the direction to take.
As a web developer, should be okay. Still risks involved.
I don’t have a iOS device. Can you get Firefox and run adblockers and privacy software? If so, do it.
If you want additional protection:

Currently reading Nobodys Normal by anthropologist Roy Richard Grinker.
It’s a hard read as I’m constantly googling how he did his research. But I do absolutely agree with his theory that “normal” assumes there’s a baseline of what that looks like. And that data is impossible to get at the current time, only when you look back on it.
For example, we have data to identify what normal can look like in 1920 based on averages. But it’ll be pretty racist and not what people want to hear, and it’s also missing a lot like accurate health records and the huge percentage of people who were misdiagnosed or undocumented.
Overall, I agree. There is no normal.
That’s a way better community! Thanks for the recommendation!
This is it.
The games community in lemmy.world is a bunch of folks advertising their indie game or YouTube stream. Usually a few comments here and there.
The games community on lemmy.ml is a bunch of folks sharing gaming journalism. Pretty active.
Can the president declare them traitors and no longer fit for duty, thus ousting them physically?
