I’m not the one moving them, go look at the actual kinds of statements the PR guys make about destroying humanity.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•RimWorld switches engine from Unity to the devs' own, faster Waylith Engine, all apparently without breaking mods somehowEnglish
1·18 days agoThey’re both projects moving away from Unity and to something more tailorable to their needs at a lower level, so it’s not all that strange, really.
The definition of “existential risk” in question is specifically cult jargon for “could singlehandedly end human civilization and/or the entire species.” Autonomous weapon systems, though horrifying and unconscionable, are just fine by most “x-risk” types as long as they’re only used against enemies of the state instead of enemies of Skynet.
There was a study that stopped checking for rapid development at 25. They didn’t show a “significant freeze” at 25, they just didn’t gather any data after that.

Technology@lemmy.world•Pentagon investigators have discovered that flawed intelligence and an overreliance on AI contributed to a missile strike that killed 123 Iranian school childrenEnglish
10·1 month agoThey deliberately fired the “let’s try not to commit war crimes” intelligence division because minimizing collateral damage is woke.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Why does an oven need to know what it is cooking?English
8·1 month agoThe touchscreen is cheaper to install than buttons and knobs, and they’re trying to come up with reasons that a cheaper, worse product is actually good and you should thank them for their innovation.

World News@lemmy.world•Far-right Israelis call for NAZA co-director to be hanged in protest outside parents' homeEnglish
11·1 month agoThose more extreme than Netanyahu are at least still a minority, albeit empowered by their position in the coalition. The majority of the protests against Netanyahu come from the same kind of centrists as the Americans you saw protesting Trump in 2017, who objected to the fascist boomerang coming around to hit them but wouldn’t have raised nearly as much of a fuss about deportations and overseas assassination campaigns if Hillary Clinton had been the one behind them.
I think it’s all too easy to imagine a mass of undifferentiated monsters rather than confronting the connection between unfortunately familiar patterns of political engagement and the slaughter they cause, just because that connection is more obvious closer to the blade of the imperialist knife. Plenty of militaristic genocide deniers are just as much liberal progressives as their counterparts in western countries until the switch flips back to their military brainwashing and they start talking about security guarantees and buffer zones.
Maybe I’m naive for believing that people can change, but I don’t think that everyone who’s been sold on the lie that forever war is the only way for them to be safe is as committed to violence as the backyard terrorists with lawn chairs.

News@lemmy.world•‘Made in China’ tank explodes during military exercise, two soldiers killedEnglish
1·2 months agoDo you think the title would’ve mentioned an “All-American” tank if it had been a 60 year old M48, or do you see the bias at play?

Linuxsucks@lemmy.world•The year of the Linux purity testEnglish
7·2 months agoThe practical harm is making more and more projects focused on compatibility with a technofascist-funded stack over independent alternatives. Providing tech support for Omarchy means doing free labor for a multi-million dollar ideological project, or worse, drinking from that oligarch funding stream and becoming financially beholden to the anti-tolerance side of the FOSS culture war.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•Using fascist technology to fight fascism still promotes fascist technology.
31·2 months agoI think there’s a pretty clear implication of referring to generative AI specifically when lay people use the term at this point, especially when creative labor is mentioned.

I guess I’m trapped in the void, trying to set up crafting for enough sigils to break into splashing dimensional cores, as usual. Orb of Creation had already been consuming enough of my life…

Technology@lemmy.world•Co-Founder of Controversial NSO Spyware Firm Had Israeli Diplomatic PassportEnglish
20·4 months agoIsrael’s entire edge in the tech sector is in lax regulation and a steady supply of experienced, amoral ex-military software engineers. Western entrepeneurs who would otherwise have had trouble finding willing professionals and maintaining legal cover for their adware, data mining, or cyberweapons startup in a home country more concerned with ethics and international relations flocked to Israel over the last couple decades and singlehandedly propped up the local economy.
In return, the US, for instance, gets to wash its hands of the whole affair and say they’re not the ones selling spyware to the Saudis and other western-friendly authoritarian regimes, it’s all out of their control, while American venture capital reaps the rewards of investments in Israeli companies.

World News@lemmy.world•Russia and China Develop Joint Plan to Counter Starlink; It Involves Physical Destruction of SatellitesEnglish
8·4 months agoIt’s not even secret, there have been highly publicized tests of ground- and air-launched interceptor missiles, and a fair few tests observed by amateur astronomers where military satellites rendezvoused and closed to observation/weapons range with dummy targets. It’s very hard to hide anything that happens in orbit.

7·4 months agoIt doesn’t have to be a full on quest marker HUD overlay, just being able to glance at a mirror of your phone’s map display in your peripheral vision without taking it out of your pocket would be great.

He likely would have had a coalition if not for the fact that huge portions of the Palestinian-Israeli population, who usually abstain from voting because they don’t want to acknowledge the Israeli regime as legitimate, actually turned out to vote for the first time. Sadly the opposition would rather let Netanyahu win than work with their parties; genocide isn’t even the issue most parties have with Netanyahu. Most of the opposition is pro-genocide, they just think they could do it more efficiently and respectably.
