  • Well, the Internet is connected together using routers/switches. Your own home network is a “private internet” until you pay to connect it to the big one. So if you want, nothing is stopping you from running cables to your neighbors and hooking together. But then you won’t have access to anything useful except whatever servers you guys run

    Was that your question?

  • My understanding is that the time dilation effect is point of reference based. So to an external viewer, they would see you slow down and then fade away, red shifted, because the light has a harder and harder time escaping the pull of gravity. From your perspective it may be business as normal, not even particularly noticable (maybe)

What actually happens to you is anyone’s guess currently. The classic view is that with a big enough black hole, you could safely pass the event horizon and explore a very weird region of space where everything (including light) is flowing in one direction. However, since hawking, physics has wrestled with the black hole information paradox — since black holes emit hawking radiation and shrink, is it that you’re duplicated inside and outside? Are the two selves entangled? Do those entanglements rip apart? Or do you get disintegrated and stored on the surface? Is there an energetic barrier around the event horizon? Do you stop being 3D? Does time and space switch roles? Can you exit through a bridge to another part of the universe? Yep, we don’t really know

Recommend PBS Spacetime on YT if you want to explore the theories

  • Really annoys me that Apple has a policy of no more updates after 7 years (or when they change the CPU architecture enough) — that’s hardcore planned obsolescence & I think it made their hardware quality worse over time (in addition to being unrepairable)

Super lame. While I’m ranting, their trade in program is a scam that doesn’t pay out almost ever. And otherwise they will “recycle it for free” making money Im sure

So yeah I’m pretty sure the era of MacBook superiority is over & imma buy a considerably higher spec System 76 laptop instead which comes with a repair bible for pretty much every scenario and is upgradeable

  • To be unfunny:

The whole idea of a balls hitting each other universe went out the window when we hit the quantum era. We have had to adapt to a reality where matter is somehow a statistical phenomena, and the details are always hidden from us in one way or another. Entanglement is another confusing thing, and its super common - not just some rare phenomena in a lab, it’s more of a fact of particle interaction

So our brains are somehow statisical-chemical-electric sugar powered supercomputers that have entangled state. And the brain actually stretches across the body, with various chemistry being produced throughout

In short, nobody has any idea how brains really work, it’s way more elaborate than current AI. It’s also likely impossible to fully simulate a brain - it would have to BE a brain

There’s a separate question about the nature of randomness in the universe, but all we can know is that follows a normal distribution over time. It seems truly random from our point of view. Of course, who’s to say if God likes to fudge the numbers a little
